@SirSpencer Eagle Scout, Arrowman, Wood Badge-trained, ex-Scoutmaster, and ex-Cubmaster here.The national org cannot be saved. It'd take either a successor organization or a series of local councils splitting off to have even a fighting chance at saving scouting in the US.

@SirSpencer I was pretty much ready to check out as soon as they started letting trans scouts in. Not because they're trans, but because the policies for leaders that came with that change were a huge personal liability to volunteers. The only real guidance was "treat them exactly as boys because that's what their parents put on the forms." All it takes at that point is a biological female coming to the swimming hole in trunks to put a leader between a rock and a hard place, especially if anyone has a camera, and yes, all the scouts seem to have phones these days. Even half the cubs. That's what I told my district leadership and my troop and pack leaders, and it made me decide it just wasn't worth it. It's hard enough when you don't have a kid in the program.And before anyone asks, no, I didn't ask to join, they asked me to help out because they knew I'm both trained and experienced as a scout in later units because I'm also an experienced unit leader. In the age of single moms and soyboy dads, most parents who want their kids in scouts jump at the chance to get an old eagle scout to run their units.

@leyonhjelm yeah I could be a scout master but that will not likely happen idk. BSA is flaming dog shit but so is everything kid-reladed for the last decade minimum from what I could tell.Went to my summer camp on a visitor's Sunday a couple years back and it was cucked beyond recognition...they just had the first girl braves in mic o say this summer 🥶

@SirSpencer when I was in scouts as a youth I could see the hand of the lawyers slowly destroying everything, but they really stepped it up after I aged out.

@sysfs @SirSpencer I never had the problem directly but the way they didn't take their volunteers into account was disappointing. I'd definitely have continued if the organisation had been run better. The national leaders are fools.

@SirSpencer I grew up with two super gay scouts. Wasn't allowed at the time, and they were good blokes. But once the line was drawn, the fight was purely about free association. Part of the battle happened even earlier when the fight was about allowing women to lead scout troops. That one started in the 70s I think.
