       I’m currently watching “Ford v Ferrari” (taking a little break now because I find Hollywood movies kinda hard to sit through, even well-crafted ones like this). It’s full of clichés and is very formulaic, which is great because I want to emulate that in a satirical screenplay. But even suspending my disbelief and appreciating the Hollywoodization of events that were surely devoid of glamour, I can’t get over the Hero being an abusive hothead who is somehow only violent and aggressive to other men, including his male-bonded friends, while treating his sexy supportive wife and adorable child with only respect and gentleness. When the character smashes glass and throws heavy metal objects, I think his skinny wife should stay far away from him, but somehow this dude has the perfect family life.

       @nina Since it’s Hollywood, the writers knew the protagonist needed to be likeable, and nowadays no one likes a wife beater.

       @nina You eloquently summed up my issue with a lot of movies (and media in general). Even taking into account the Hollywood fantasy aspect, it’s tiring to watch so many portrayals of men in male-dominated stories written by men for other men where women display zero agency or concern for anything other than the male hero’s desires.Not all movies have to be Girl Power epics about smashing the patriarchy, but it’d be nice if a few more could at least pass the Bechdel test.
