I agree with you, but it sucks how someone will make a dumb comment and get bombarded with trolling because of one screenshot.        @Agnodice It’s insane how this is not taken seriously, nor even really spoken about. My doctor didn’t even mention the side effects when I first went on birth control. I had researched it a bit before and asked about things like depression, weight gain, blood clots, etc., “it’s rare, don’t worry, birth control is generally safe.” All my perfectly rational worries about birth control were completely valid, but my questions were totally brushed aside and disregarded. This happens to women every day, all because god forbid men have sex with a condom or take a male form of birth control.

       @LadyMont I’ve noticed a push to make things like extreme age gaps (almost always an older man and much younger woman) and polyamory more acceptable in recent years, it’s kind of disturbing. There’s a channel on YouTube called Love Don’t Judge that frequently features these kind of relationships, it’s also often promoted on apps for teenagers like Snapchat and TikTok. It portrays these relationships as being happy and normal, just as “acceptable” as any other relationship, but we all know that’s definitely not true. It’s a very weird push and seems to be trying to influence younger people to be more “accepting.”

The statue doesn’t represent Wollstonecraft at all, it looks like any random female body, while still conventionally attractive with a narrow waist and hourglass figure of course. 🙄 It’s gross on so many levels to reimagine such an important historical figure like this. She was a feminist pioneer, why is she portrayed as naked with Marilyn Monroe measurements? Super disrespectful to Wollstonecraft and the women who look up to her. They would never make a similar statue of a male historical figure.

       @nina You eloquently summed up my issue with a lot of movies (and media in general). Even taking into account the Hollywood fantasy aspect, it’s tiring to watch so many portrayals of men in male-dominated stories written by men for other men where women display zero agency or concern for anything other than the male hero’s desires.Not all movies have to be Girl Power epics about smashing the patriarchy, but it’d be nice if a few more could at least pass the Bechdel test.

I’ve seen a few threads on Reddit where some guy allegedly found out his girlfriend did some kind of porn before and most guys will consider this a deal breaker, or even cheating.Men will lust after women in porn, they’d have sex with them, but most wouldn’t want their own girlfriend or wife anywhere near it. They know it’s degrading. They know it’s disgusting. They do not see it as regular work. They defend their consumption of porn as completely normal, but treat the women who perform as sub-human.        @lezpaulguitars I’ve always been somewhat of a germaphobe and it’s plainly obvious how gross most men are. They don’t wash their hands as much or clean surfaces. There are plenty of studies that agree, yet somehow we’re supposed to be surprised at more men catching Covid. 🙄 Could it be the lack of basic hygiene? :blobcatthink:

       @GalacticTurtle I agree that it’s a cultural issue, but it’s a difficult issue to address because I think it’s a result of men lacking empathy for women in general. Addressing all the negative aspects of the porn industry means you also need to address why so many men get off on women suffering.It’s been well known for a long time that the porn industry is exploitative, I even remember hearing “jokes” about it in the 90s when I was a kid. The common joke being a young woman would be offered a “modelling” contract, sign it, then be forced into doing porn because she didn’t read the contract. This actually happens, and men treat it like a joke.This definitely isn’t because men are just so oblivious to everything around them, they know how terrible the industry is, but at the center of it, they don’t care. They don’t care about the women being abused to make porn. They often act jealous of big name porn stars who make a lot of money “just for having sex.” Men don’t turn a blind eye to things they personally care about; if a celebrity or video game company says something they dislike, they’re ready to complain and cancel them. Men on Reddit are ready to review-bomb any random company if someone posts screenshots of the CEO saying something rude.Men are not blind to this stuff, they just absolutely don’t care about women.

       Anyone else get really irritated when other women in Western countries say things like “I just don’t think we need feminism anymore, we already have equal rights” and the like? It just completely misses the point.In the US, abortion rights are still a contentious issue and constantly under threat. Women still face sexual harassment at work and school which hinders our performance. The pandemic has shown that women are still more likely to give up their careers to stay home and take care of their children full-time. Women make up only about 20% of elected officials across the country despite being half the population.I’m so tired of hearing how we’ve achieved equality because we can legally vote.
