Dwarf Fortress should be released under the GNU GPLv3 or later, change my mind.

@brown121407 Actually brought up this discussion with Tarn a couple of years ago and at that time he had no plans for GNU licensing the code.

@meisam And it wouldn't be software freedom if that wasn't their choice to make.Looking up the source code, it's free and open source, which is what matters more than the license type.Which restrictions from the GPLv3 do you feel would improve the position of DF?@brown121407

@mplammers @brown121407 To be clear, I’m not belittling the Dwarf Fortress devs. Their license is free enough (almost similar to CC BY-NC) that I've been supporting the project for a long time.

@meisam @mplammers how is their license "free enough"? Sorry, I'm new to this game, but as far as I read it is proprietary, closed source software. Correct me if I'm wrong.

@brown121407 @meisam @mplammers and with the paid steam release coming I think this is the perfect time to at least make the classic version free software.

@emilis @brown121407 There’s nothing wrong with trying to convince proprietary software developers to release their software as free software.
