Putting down Roots and Ruins doesn't mean I'm giving up #XanNoWriMo. Instead, it means I'm working on Star Eaters again. Though this story is... slightly more complicated.

Everyone plans their stories differently, if at all. But these little story circles are how I like to plan out mine. They just feel intuitive.

@stelepami 🙂 Me too. Which may be a big part of why I use them!

@InvaderXan @stelepami I'm not a writer; how do story circles work?

@neeti Oh, thank you! I may have been putting off writing this story because of how many story arcs it needs me to juggle 😅

@InvaderXan looks like those clean tree cuts where one can see the years in circles :amaze: :blob_cat_aww:

@InvaderXan I love that you've taken a more visual route to planning arcs. I tend to just jot down things in words and draw bubbles around them, connected by lines, but it has become a bit tedious to get that bird's eye perspective. I might try to do something like this, this weekend! (also I can't wait to see how your story turns out! I love seeing people's creation processes)

@baerd 9 story arcs for 5 characters across two books. Also, I just realised this is all plot and doesn't include character growth arcs or that one romantic sub-plot.Yeah, I want to make sure this story turns out to be good!

@neeti I always think visually 🙂 it just feels most intuitive to me!That said, I do also start out with bubbles and lines, but I use that more for ideas. I only start drawing out the arcs like this when I have a good idea of what they are and where they should fit. You should definitely try the same though! Find something that works for you. I sometimes draw them out as a linear timeline too.Maybe I should post more creative process things here...

@InvaderXan what do the circles represent? Subplots? Arcs?

@1ll173r47 Arcs. Colour coded by which character is the focus. The central circle is the main plot.
