Honest question - are there people who are not tired all the time? How much being tired is normal??

@mk for healthy, or unhealthy? I am never not tired, itās just the degree, but Iām ill and I have been for a very, very long time.I know itās not easy, under the circumstances and for many any time financially - but if you are supposed to be healthy and you are tired all the time, make sure thereās nothing wrong. fatigue is a symptom of a very wide range of diseases and deficiencies.

@mk I chose āI rarely feel tired throughout the day.ā Iām 26 but never developed a caffeine intake habit. Iām not sure if that has anything to do with it. Most people I work with canāt function without coffee. I do a lot of those 12+ hour show business days but my activities and schedule switch up a lot including random weeks where I can sleep to my heartās content after a festival or something similar. If Iād been doing M-F 9-5 the past five years like my friends have, I imagine Iād experience a lot more fatigue.

If you voted the last one - what is your secret??? Are you just a naturally energetic person and/or good sleeper? Or did changing something improve your energy, sleep, etc?

@mk Any woman who is tired a lot should get her ferritin (iron stores) tested. Sometimes blood iron level is ok but iron stores can be low and this can cause or contribute to fatigue. Doctors often donāt test for ferritin unless you ask for it specifically.

@GalacticTurtle @mk I think thereās much to be said for hard work that is relatively active and inherently energizing vs something you donāt even like that might also have you staring at a computer for 8hrs so you can avoid coworks you fuckin hate.I worked in a dog kennel for 3yrs and it was brutally hard on my physical body (and filthy working conditions, I was sick constantly) but I got up and did it 30-50 hours a week because I loved those dogs. Working retail, however much āeasierā physically, drained the entire soul from my body and had me feeling like roadkill.

@NotHylia @GalacticTurtle I feel this. I actually really like what I do these days, but it is entirely on a computer! I definitely sleep the best at night after Iāve had some hard physical activity during the day. Maybe I should exercise moreā¦ā¦.. š¬ š

@steph @NotHylia @mk Exactly! I think being engaged in your work really goes a long way in keeping yourself energized. That and not staring at a computer screen all the time. During times of pre-production when Iām just at home with a million spreadsheets I need to give myself breaks⦠which I can luckily because I work from home most of the time when a show isnāt actually happening. I can open a window, turn on a radio, and get those smoothies and pasta from Panera I like! Only time I was truly exhausted was at this newly opened venue-from-hell where the owner was insane and insisted on having shows 7 nights a week. So I worked 7 nights (and days) a week for eight months before politely rage quitting feeling at any given moment that I was seconds away from exhibiting very atypical behavior that would certainly not go over well. I legit slept overnight there because shows would end at 2am but Iād have the next bandās bus arriving at 6am⦠over and over and over again⦠the silence in my life after I quit was heavenly lol. Also Iāve always stayed away from alcohol and have never been on any sort of medication longterm⦠just an occasional round of antibiotics. But other than that Iād say my diet is typical of any other American in that I donāt go out of my way to buy organic and I consume a lot of sugar. When my mom decreased sugar/meat in her diet though she said she felt a lot more energetic. (Iāve also wondered what it would be like to do farming type work but mostly because Iām obsessed with old TV westerns despite always living deep within cities). In terms of outdoor work Iāve also been working at a drive-in theater right on the river during COVID and that has been wonderful!

@mk @GalacticTurtle Yeah, I think the screen-life screws with our brains and ability to achieve restful sleep no matter how much you like what youāre doing on them. Probably another reason general malaise is on the rise! I dont think Iāve had restful sleep since the pandemic hit and I started looking at my phone for 18 hours a day.

@mk By the way, to anyone who can afford it, I really recommend daylight alarm clocks. They typically come with multiple alarm sounds, a slow ādawnā light in the morning and often with functions for āsunsetā light or soft sounds for falling asleep in the evening. I had a friend recommend one to me and at some point I bit the bullet and invested in one. Havenāt looked back since, it really makes a big difference for how easy it is for me to wake up in the morning. Of course it wonāt work miracles, but in my experience (and that of at least one friendās), it really helps.

@mk The least thing tips me into insomnia. Ate too big a dinner? Or too late? Insomnia. Worried about catching a train the next day? Insomnia. Serious stress? Definitely insomnia. Two things make the difference for me, both essential: making sure I have my quota of B vitamins (I seem to need way more than most people), and exercise like hiking for an hour a day about 5 times per week. Or longer hikes 3-4 times per week. Then I sleep just fine even if I do have a train to catch :blobjoy:

@mk After I started taking wellbutrin I stopped being tired all the time. I used to deal with fatigue all day everyday and I think it was a symptom of depression for me.
