First post on Fosstodon from the PineTab. I'll do a pseudo-full review later, but I'll say this is an interesting device.

@mike I'd like a Pinephone one of these days but the pitiful specs make me cry.

@happymoomoo I've got an order on the last one. I like the idea of the Pine devices, but they're not "ready for production" type stuff. I got the Manjaro Pinephone, and the UBPorts PineTab. UBPorts is nowhere near where it needs to be for a consumer based device.

@blackrat Maybe for the general consumer market, but I use my tablet regularly. I've been using my Pixel C pretty religiously (despite its many failings) since I bought it. I've been wanting to get something to replace it for a while now, but the privacy concerns for Android tablets/phones makes me wish for an alternative. I'm not a huge fan of Apple (understatement of the year), so a non-iDevice would be much appreciated.

@mike it's hard to choose hardware now (not only tablet) We are aware of crap what is vailable (bloat, privacy, security, freedom ... ) and there are some atempts to offer something better, but we are still not there ...

@bamfic Hopefully they'll at least have 4gb RAM when the average smartphone has 12gb.. @mike

@happymoomoo Maybe they'll make a "premium" version when everything is farther along. At this point, the software just isn't going to justify a more expensive model because things just don't work like they would on a "premium" Android device or an iPhone. @bamfic

@mike @bamfic If they worked on hardening the security and anonymity potential of the hardware like Purism purports to do (without paying $750 for a 3gb RAM phone) then that'd be hella-sweet. They could even scrimp on the specs since you don't NEED 12gb to run whatever mega-bloated android OS they'll have reached by that hypothetical time!

@mike @bamfic Hell if they can make an Ubuntu fork run on 128mb RAM (Bohdi Linux) then there's no need to have MOAR RAM for a future Pinephone that's got libreboot and all that!

@mike personally I've found arch to be the best so far although mobian is pretty good . I'm not a huge fan of ubports so I can't really give any review of that as I switched to another distro on the second day . Everything works on the arch image . It just need a little more polish to be perfect . Glad you finally got it now Mike, you've been a long time waiting . Enjoy it mate and I'll look forward to your review .

@GreyLinux I was actually just starting to look at Mobian when you said this. I saw it running on the Pinephone, and it looked pretty good. Was checking to see what it would take to get it on the tab. Taking the images I saw on DDG and your recommendation, I'll give it a spin!

@mike @GreyLinux wish I could afford a PinePhone/tab😢 If I could at this point I think at this point I would go with phosh on mobian or arch. For now I can only look at YouTube videos and salivate. I do really appreciate what Pine is doing because they aren't trying to target consumers which allows them to ship imperfect devices, giving app/platform developers something to target
