Well I finished RahXephon last nightIt copied so many elements from Evangelion, I can't even believe they got away with it. Characters, plot elements, setup, motifs, visual ques, some tracks in the OST are similar, and hell they even copied the shot composition in some parts. The early 2000s and late 90s were filled with lots of anime deeply inspired by Eva, but this takes it a step farther. My guess is that it must have started out as a fan-work and was later worked into it's own thingRegardless, it wasn't terrible or anything but it also wasn't very goodYou'd be better off just watching Eva, as it doesn't really do anything of note that Eva doesn'tThe ED and episode 19 were really good thohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeX8XV00rxMAlso if anynyan here knows any theory, I wonder what the time signature of the chorus in that song is, it's odd!

@ocean Ahh I meant to add:It's easy to see why RahXephon is obscure and generally unknown after watching it lol

@ocean @ocean RahXephon is important because it was the source material for Euphoria, one of the all-time great anime music videos. But as Eva clones go, I like Eureka Seven better. It's basically "What if Eva but with a director who wasn't undergoing a mental health crisis?"

@ocean @ocean Of course, federated network people would probably like Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure just for the forced-crossdressing scene.

@mattskala @ocean Never heard of Euphoria! Yee yee but to compare Eureka Seven to it in that way is unfair to Eureka Seven!RahXephon really really went wayyy too far with copying Eva, Eureka Seven is just inspired by, but not a copy innit

@ocean @ocean Back in The Day, that was the one all the AMV editors wanted to imitate. The Web forum for such people was where I first met @ninjawedding . I don't even know if the place still exists.

@mattskala @ocean @ocean wow, that's a video I haven't seen in a long time!a-m-v.org still exists and, astonishingly, still has activity (they just ran the 2020 Viewer's Choice Awards), though I only recognize a few of the names on it now.
