My cat is not well. He hasn’t been eating much, which is very unlike him. He has to go for a scan tomorrow (it might be cancer, he’s 17) so he has to fast overnight. Having eaten sod all today, now he’s crying for food and I can’t give him any. It’s breaking my heart. I really hope he doesn’t have cancer.Send us good vibes tomorrow sisters, I’m gonna try to go to sleep now.

So it’s not good news for my kitty. He has a lesion on his lungs, which is most likely lung cancer. He also had a bladder infection.We had a tough weekend, he was not good at all for most of Saturday, not eating, not grooming. He got an antibiotic shot on Saturday morning to treat the bladder infection, and that seems to have helped - he was eating more by the evening. The vet gave me ant-acids and an appetite stimulant to help with his eating, which he steadfastly refuses to consume, no matter how much tuna I hide it in. But he is eating more.He’s a much slimmer cat now than he was in this photo. My poor little Fatty. He’s been with me for 17 years, since he was 8 weeks old. I knew he couldn’t live forever, but it’s still really difficult to know he’s nearing the end.

@Camille I had a cat that died of cancer as well. My dear, love little miss Piko. When I think of her, I still get tears in my eyes and it’s been almost a decade. God I loved that cat.

@Chronic-Yonic You know the one upside to this is that due to Covid, I’m at home all of the time. It was lovely to have him with me during lockdown (it’s just me and him!)I’d hate to have to go out to work and leave him right now. I’m glad I can be here to give him rubs and comfort.

@Camille That’s true. Did the vet offer any possible treatments? Not that it’s a super terrific thing to do, especially if it involves those poisonous chemical treatments chemo, though…

@Chronic-Yonic No, we’re in palliative care territory. He also has an enlarged heart (a consequence of a heart murmur he’s had since he was a kitten). I had a cat a number of years ago who contracted feline AIDS. Her last days were me trying to get tablets down her throat, and her vigorously resisting with every last bit of strength she had. I promised myself that I wouldn’t do that again. I’ll do everything I can to make him comfortable, and enjoy the time I have left with him, and when he’s no longer comfortable, I will do the decent thing and let him go. 💔

@Camille I lost my cat-son of twenty years this past March. The first everything without them is the hardest, but it gets easier after. Spend as much time with your kitty as you can, because in the end no matter how much you did it will always feel like what you did was inadequate. ((((hugs))))

@Camille Poor angel! ❤️❤️ At this point, it would be a blessing for a relaxed passing. I had a cat die recently that was 21 years old and looked like your baby (she was a runt tuxedo - very petite and shy). She began losing her balance and memory. It absolutely broke my heart hearing her meow loudly around the house in the early morning hours, acting like she wanted to have water from the sink but staring at it blankly when I turned it on for her. It’s an excruciatingly bitter pill to swallow, but sometimes it’s better for them to pass. He knows he’s loved. Keep showing him that love. :blobheart:

@life_as_a_bug Thanks bugsy. I aim to make his remaining time as comfortable as possible, but if he’s in pain or distress, to let him go. He’s been my buddy for a long time, and much as I don’t want to lose him, I don’t want to let him suffer.
