I just saw the phrasing “viciously misgender.” Viciously. I mean I have to laugh, it must be nice for certain radfems to be able to forget what happens when you give those cultists even an inch to spare their fragile feelings. Women are too damn nice, wish we would be more considerate of each other’s shrinking human rights while we’re at it. You know, maybe collectively draw a line in the sand and quit guilting each other into mommying political opponents.

@Pinstripe @ArtistBristol @rewired it reads to me like she’s stating the obvious - police usually don’t charge them. She doesn’t sound like she’s saying it’s ok. She experienced it an knew nothing would be done. And today if I were raped I wouldn’t go to the police. I worked at s rape crisis center and saw from start to finish the whole hellish experience and very rarely were any charged filed. Just recently friend of a friend reached out to me about a relative and I had to call a few contacts to get her to an ER that would do the PERK exam. Even though a hospital with a forensic exam nurse legally they have to provide the the exam to anyone who asks, they often refuse. And the police are shit at sexual offenses.

@Pinstripe @Mafalda @rewired Tyson was actually CONVICTED of rape and was given 10 years, he served about 6. So whether Helen Mirren believed it or not is irrelevant to the fact that justice was done.This was in 1992, long before the “ Me Too” movement which began in 2006 and became world wide in 2017.Helen Mirren is an elderly actress - not a politician, and not a scholar of feminism, as far as we know.I expect she has spent her whole life in showbiz seeing groupies waiting at the stage door for a chance to sleep with celebrity men, and that’s probably what gave her that view about Tyson’s victims.So although clearly she is guilty of ‘wrong- think’ on that particular case, it does not mean everything else she ever said is rubbish.

@Pinstripe @ArtistBristol @rewired I don’t get her comment on Tyson, but I can sorta understand her stance on date rape. When I was growing up, that wasn’t in our vocabulary. Yes, we thought men were disgusting for ‘taking advantage’ but we didn’t call it rape. It wasn’t so long ago that marital rape was recognised in law. And people thought that you couldn’t rape a prostitute because money had been exchanged. She probably was very aware of the ‘casting couch’ as well. That wasn’t seen as rape either, just the cost of doing business, or in this case, getting part.

@Pinstripe BTW, I have this theory why the fabulous movie Carol did so poorly in distribution across the world. At the time, Weinstein was co-distributor. He had made advances to Blanchett on a few occasions and I bet he made some pretty instant advances when the movie was about to get released. She has said in interviews when the bastard was arrested that she had refused his advances and he told her: we are NOT friends, you and I and she knew there would be repercussions on her career, somehow, somewhere.
