N26 founders use IMHO lame lack of hygienic concept excuse to get a court to stop employee organisation. Weird. Article in German. https://financefwd.com/de/n26-wahlen/

@jwildeboer A Betriebsrat creates an unhealthy work climate, with a few chosen ones that get bribed by management, that's also only responsible for representing workers in Germany. The time for institutions like that is over.

@ij The whole thing is just a publicity stunt for verdi to "convince" more people of joining them so their elite can live their lives in luxury. @jwildeboer

@juliank I still disagree, because I experienced how companies act when there is no strong Betriebsrat or a strong base of union members. Companies then act for their own good and not for the good of their workers. @jwildeboer

@ij The key point is that was is good for the company should be good for the worker, and vice versa.Employee participation, and employee representation in executive decisions can play an important role there. You don't need the legal garbage and paperwork a Betriebsrat involves. And you certainly don't need a Union involved who mostly cares about paying its own executives.@jwildeboer

@juliank No, still disagree. Trickle down economics is a modern fairy tale that does not work in far too many cases. It's fine when coexistence of employer and employees is working that way you describe, but it's too often an exception and not a rule. Workers council and unions are still needed today. Maybe even more than in prior times. @jwildeboer

@ij Optimally, the unhappy employees would just quit, and then either they find new ones or not, and if not, have to review and adjust to become more attractive again. If you've reached the point where people feel you need organized employee representation, something has gone really wrong.@jwildeboer

@juliank Exactly this can happen when company is not listening to employees over years. Like in a growing business but head count still keeps same, resulting in overworked people and "Ueberlastungsanzeigen" that are still ignored. When people quit knowledge goes away and the workload for the rest of the team increases, making things even worse. Workers council and unions can help here in prioritizing things and put pressure onto the employer. W/o workers council nothing happend.@jwildeboer

@ij @juliank it is astonishing how many workers in IT think so neoliberal that they willingly shoot themselves in their own knees instead of actually using the powers they have. How they criticise existing unions just like their bosses do instead of setting up their own union. Le sigh. Good for VC, at least.

@jwildeboer Yeah, I think a specialised IT union would be good and also a binding rule set of ethics... but that's a wide topic... @juliank
