Is it me or is there a thing where..- A lot of POC are justifiably disappointed by white people on the Fedi and express that in many ways.- White allies seem to think that the best think to do is retoot only the hardest "white people will never change" takes. ("I'm woke & don't have fragility, look: I reblog the hardest toots" performativity?) - Their followers only see a stereotype of bitter POC & learn nothing about what should actually change.- ... nothing changes.

I'm white and I could be wrong about this, but my guess is that those "white people will never change" toots are not for you? Maybe amplify content about what should change and what people should do to make it happen? That content doesn't have to be nice and polite, you don't have to censor POC anger. But what's happening here feels.. wrong and performative? Like, are you telling yourself that you can never change? Do you see how that's fucked?

Less sure on this part but... I feel like the above is not only true of "white people will never change" toots but also broader of only retooting expressions of frustration & bitterness by POC and no constructive stuff? What do you think you're achieving by reblogging these emotions? It seems a bit like performing a white savior-martyr thing where it's you're duty as a white ally to let all the judgement wash over you... instead of, ya know... doing actual work to fix it?

@ArtistMarciaX @queeranarchism this makes me angry because it's kinda true. My pissy posts do numbers. The angrier I am, the quicker it gains notes and the longer it cycles out there but it's a fucking struggle to get anyone to give much of a shit about beautifying posts, about lists of people to support, about suggestions to protect the community, about events happening hosted by BIPOC. White people use our anger to paint themselves in a certain light but as a result so many people think I'm just a loud bitch that does nothing but complain, and oh my word the shit people say about Marcia because they only know their anger. It's infuriating.

@popstar @ArtistMarciaX @queeranarchism I have two problems connected to this issue. One is the belief that it's the anger that changes things, and that change will be quick. Like, one of the greatest changes in me has probably come from @popstar 's posts on ancient mexica culture. I'll let you know in a couple of years. I'll not be able to boost the thing that made the biggest change. But we're taught that it's the (often male) angry screamers who bring about change. And then we boost people which are just venting frustration, because that's what we've learned to look for.My other problem is that I think there's something built into how social media works that makes it harder for people to change. Like, I've been blocked for calling people out a few times. But that might be because this form of media is not for the type of discussions that produce conclusions, agreements or compromise. If you are someone with a lot of followers and a lot of interactions, it becomes impossible to tell good criticism from trolling. So maybe we should stop telling ourselves that we're here for those kinds of discussions.

@queeranarchism lol I was thinking something along the lines "maybe White People For Change should also boost other white people who criticise white people, because that's likely more relevant to us and the (usually mostly white) people we interact with".And then I re-read this door and realized that wait this is one of those things!
