Me as a baby leftist when I had read literally no history, studied no theory and was generally still enamoured with bourgeois ideology and believed history was an "impartial" part of academia rather than a series of bourgeois professors from the United States being elevated to fame to further bourgeois ideology and propaganda with footnotes vs today

@EnglishRed That would have been an interesting scenario considering how Trotsky was very dedicated to the spread of Bolshevik revolutionary movements worldwide whereas Stalin was committed to his "Socialism in one Country" doctrine.

@qcat Quite untrue my friend but again this is something I used to believe when i was a trot who had read nothing so I have patience for you Socialism in One Country was written as USSR foreign policy when the revolutions in Europe had all failed (hungary/Finland/Germany) Firstly SIOC was declaration of independence from the West and the belief that they "need Europe to build socialism" 2nly - Trotsky agreed with Stalin (as shown in the below Kotkin video) https://streamable.com/dcoteh

@EnglishRed It's a bit of a semantic disagreement, but in the end we will never know except if we find a way to travel through different reality instances 😉

@qcat To become head of the bolsheviks Trotsky wouldve had to have not spent the pre revolutionary years vassilating between the Mensheviks or the Mehyratsi party spouting off absolute rubbish By 1927 he'd destroyed his Bolshevik membership for breaking party rules and was thrown out of the Bolsheviks So there is no alternate history as he was in bourgeois reformist parties until a few months before the Oct revolution and was thrown out for being a shitty bolshevik

@EnglishRed Didn't Trotsky and others get kicked out over the disagreement on the support for the Kuomintang?

@qcat nah for - breaking Lenins ban on factions and setting up a pathetic faction which was only able to get 4000 votes versus 724,000 - instead of submitting to the will of the party (another leninist rule in Democratic Centralism) setup a secret printing press - setup demonstrations against the party which was obv a huge breach of party rules P.285 of history of cpusb P.219 Iain Grey, Stalin Im sure thats what trotsky said though. He lied a lot.

@EnglishRed TBH I am not a fan of *any* Bolshevik, no matter which camp they belonged to. Personally I have written off anything that happened in Russia after the civil war.
