Today the US celebrates their independence from an autocratic, nepotist regime whose power was derived from inheritance, while being ruled by a nepotist autocrat whose power is derived from inheritance. Oh the irony.

@publius Ok, let's just assume for a moment that I take that "citation needed" statement as the truth, what is the sense in replacing one finite resource as energy source with another one that is even *more* finite?I'd also say we should really save all that uranium for spacecraft, submarines and other technological solutions which require fission.

@esvrld Not to exonerate Lovecraft for his polyphobia, but one of the few demographics he never explicitly generalized as aberrant, corrupted, degenerate or duplicitous by their very nature were women. They are just generally absent from his narratives.

Online interactions would be so much less aggressive and upsetting if people applied Hanlon's Razor i.e. "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity"

Trump will do everything possible and impossible to sabotage the next election. It is not only his ego that doesn't allow him to concede a possible defeat. There is also an avalanche of lawsuits waiting for him the moment his presidential immunity is gone and he doesn't have the DOJ protecting him anymore.I expect him and his supporters to stop at nothing, no matter how unlawful or unconstitutional it is.

@tek Yeah, but he painted himself into a corner. I agree though, if he has *any* capacity for self-reflection then he'll realize that becoming president was the worst mistake of his life.

@EnglishRed That would have been an interesting scenario considering how Trotsky was very dedicated to the spread of Bolshevik revolutionary movements worldwide whereas Stalin was committed to his "Socialism in one Country" doctrine.

@EnglishRed It's a bit of a semantic disagreement, but in the end we will never know except if we find a way to travel through different reality instances 😉

@EnglishRed TBH I am not a fan of *any* Bolshevik, no matter which camp they belonged to. Personally I have written off anything that happened in Russia after the civil war.

The basic story premise isn't particularly innovative, and tropes are laid on thick. The psychological effect achieved by the writing, acting and cinematography is sublime though. As the characters question each other's sanity, the viewer becomes drawn into the argument until their own interpretation of events is repeatedly cast into doubt. The strange aspect ratio contributes to the experience a lot.A good follow-up to The Witch Roger. Keep 'em coming!
