This happened today when my wife plugged in her phone. It was sitting on our bed, and there were visible, literal flames. Thankfully she was there and this was the only damage.

@mikestone my god...definitely get quality cables, especially when fast charging. Heard too many stories already of folks screwing up their bed, or furniture because of burn marks (thankfully no injuries yet!)

@hansw@qoto.org It was neither. It wasn't a cheap knockoff, but it wasn't the official out of the box cable either. We got a couple in a package, and this was one of them. I'm tempted to throw away the others too just for safety.

@mikestone Was this a high-current charging phone or something? I've never seen a USB cable do that, and I kinda want to make sure I never do.
