Day 68 of the #100DaysToOffload Series:Twitter went and got themselves "hacked". Is Mastodon immune to the same attack?https://mikestone.me/twitter-got-hacked-is-mastodon-immune

@mike Would it be possible to cooperate with another mastodon instance to keep safe? Let's say that some admin actions have to be approved by admin of another instance.

@mike It's immune and it is not. It's immune because we have no high profile people (and if we did somebody more famours than average ppl, they just scare them away, see Wil Wheaton). And technically of course we are not immune. Every system can be cracked. I'd assume that crackers would target the biggest instances, to cause the biggest mayhem.Note: I am not a programmer, I don't even know what bitcoin is.

@mike it may be worth to report Twitter stop (for a little time) accepting posts that looked as a hash:https://twitter.com/hdevalence/status/1283792594137309184With weird consequences:https://twitter.com/hdevalence/status/1283800461179416576Another "proof":https://twitter.com/mountain_ghosts/status/1283793918199463938

@paladin I wouldn't say that it's impossible, but it would be pretty cumbersome with the given configuration. Each instance handles accounts on their instance and no other, so requiring approval from an admin of another instance that has no actual authority on your instance would be... odd. There could be a way to make that work that I'm just not thinking of.

@mike First link is screwed up. Looks like Wikipedia's use of parens in a link made the Markdown parsing a little wonky. That said, I agree with everything you wrote. The federated nature of the Fediverse makes it much safer in this type of light.

@techbalion Thanks! I checked it in Ghostwriter when I wrote it, but didn't double check after I transferred it to Write.as. Should be fixed now. I appreciate the heads up.
