Since the last time I checked, synapse, the matrix home server, has become available in ports. If I can build the WhatsApp bridge for it as well I can move my entire infrastructure back to openbsd.Still a bit apprehensive about hosting my own mail server though (I did it for several years in the past). Don’t want my mails to be blocked by Big Mail for some undisclosed reason.

@qqlq More people hosting their own helps to keep the email ecosystem open and federated. If there's only a handful of self-hosted email servers, Big Mail will have no reason to care about them breaking standards and blackholing mail from them. We need more people to stand up against the big providers, every single server helps!

@tyil I wholeheartedly agree. There’s just this small risk of that one important mail not arriving. But maybe a proper DMARC policy can ensure I’m notified of such an event?

@qqlq Most big mail providers will sent monthly DMARC reports, if you set the policy, so that can certainly help. Other than that you can set up a mailbox with those providers, send an email to it and see if it pops up in the inbox. If it doesn't, you'll need to figure out their policies as to why it wasn't delivered, which can generally be found in your mailserver's logs. You can of course also set alerts on your own logs, to be notified whenever a mailserver rejects your mail.Email not being delivered can happen for a huge number of reasons, though. This is not a problem limited to big email providers. If you *must* be certain a document is delivered, you should always meet the other party in person and hand the document over. Technology has its limits.
