How do you install latest packages in #Debian or #LMDE ? For example, 2.10.20 of GIMP or latest LibreOffice ? You can't add repos/ppas in LMDE right?#FOSS #linux

@avndp I thought you can add ppa to every Debian based distro.Other ways to install latest softwares are AppImage and Flatpack.Snap is proprietary and therefore not recommended.

@redstarfish I think, No. We can't add ppas in LMDE / Debian. If the distro is ubuntu-derivative, then yes.

@avndp Does sudo apt-get update && upgrade not work? It's been a minute since I've used Debian based systems not named Kali, but that should work.

@t0ta1packg3 Debian stable packages are old. Thanks to @jbauer for mentioning about Debian Buster Backports. I'm able to get the latest packages from there.

@avndp @jbauer That's true. Didn't think about Backports. I've been so used to rolling releases that I forget how long it takes Debian to update their stable packages.

@t0ta1packg3 @jbauer It's not about updating packages, but their motive to stay at rock-stable versions.

@avndp @jbauer Yep. I completely understand. I have most of the staff where I work running LM because of the stability. I stick with Arch because of the rolling release...and pacman.
