So I stopped using some services recently that most people think they are impossible to get away from. But what is goddamn impossible for me is this music service (anghami) I am using. I tried to download some creative commons music to listen to and decided to change my taste in music to what is available, i couldn't, life has no taste without my music. Without anghami I have two options, either download it illegally or use Youtube, both are practically and philosophically worse.

@saad I disagree that downloading "illegally" is philosophically worse. Use a Deezer scraper and the legality is questionable, but not necessarily illegal.

@mewmew To be clear, downloading music you don't have the rights to is always a breach of international copyright law even if you don't know that what you're doing is illegal!Wether that matters is another question.@saadI think what you might want to do is go old school: buy CDs, buy indie music off Bandcamp, and have your own collection

@penny @saad streaming is the same as downloading. and Deezer is a legal service. for the same reason that downloading YouTube videos is legal, so is downloading music from Deezer / Spotify / whatever other legal streaming service.

@mewmew @saad Courts are uninterested in technical arguments and ripping music off streaming services is considered not just copyright infringement but in America and in others similar countries (Germany etc) an illegal DRM circumvention (under the DMCA etc)

@penny @saad courts would rule in your favor if you bother to take it to court. but most people just settle before.

@mewmew @saad Any textualist interpretation would definitely result in you losing since they would find the text of the law meant to incriminate you. Don't try it in a conservative courtroom- that's why they always sue from red states

@mewmew @saad Fun fact: I grew up in Beaumont Texas, which features the east district court where all patent trolls nationwide take on their targets by having one office there!I'm pretty sure they bankroll that entire city

@penny @mewmew @saad Poysonally I would just steal them. Remember that chap wot threw a slipper at George W. He didn't go to court and try to get orf on a technicality he said I threw the slipper at George W. If you are gonna steal from the imperialist capitalist racists plunderers then steal from them and say catch me if you can. It's all the rage now or has the BLM thing stopped already in Amurka

@DesCoutinho @mewmew @saad I'm a pirate but to be honest I've mostly just moved to owning indie music. Music is a more fun personal experience like this and badcamp always has .FLAC

@saad Well itโs legal in my book! Not many courts of law use my book. But whatever you decide, do consider https://geti2p.net as a way to help protect yourself from their โlaws.โ

@penny @DesCoutinho @mewmew @cy So after I thought about it more, now I think that Downloading it Is the best of all the bad options I have. I found an awesome package called deemix that downloads whole albums and atrists from deezer (with all the music tagged). Thanks guys for your good bad advice ๐
