Has there been a thread about the responses to #AmyCampbell? I've watched the clip, and I was literally open-mouthed & aghast at her deployment of vile #racism.BUT - since then, there's been a gush of equally vile stuff about white women & racism, as if white women are responsible for the hierarchical system of #sexism & #racism which has propagated the myth of the black man as a threat to white women. (I've taught the silent film "Birth of a Nation" where this myth is most disturbingly performed). But this is a male myth - a myth of masculinity. It subjects women as well as black men. How does one argue that without excusing Amy Campbell? How does one call out the vile sexism of those calling out vile racism? Or as a white woman, do I recognise that now is not the time to say this?I hope Spinster is a safe space in which to discuss this - I'm really interested in a mix of views.

"White women are often propagators and beneficients of white supremacy and take advantage of it"and"White men are the primary creators of white supremacy and benefit from misogyny directed at white women specifically"are two beliefs that are not contradictory. I wish more people understood this! And yet!I feel there's lots of conversations to be had about how white women leverage their whiteness with a unique kind of eagerness as if to 'make up' for their lowered social power due to being women, but it all just mostly dissolves into calling them c*nts. White women are easier to call out and abuse over their (real or perceived) racism than men, for the exact same reasons that TERFs are easier to call out and abuse than male transpbobes who are an actual physical threat to trans people. This whole Karen thing, 'I want to speak to the manager', is a stereotype of a woman who doesn't even wield the actual power, she just pleads with the MALE white patriarchal powers to cave in and give her privileges based on her fulfilling the role that was prescribed to her -- White Mother. The only role a woman can play in western society that comes with ANY sort of privileges, and even those are on ever shaky ground and every breath she'll take will be subject to scrutiny. As we can clearly see with karenism. The system that abuses the workers on behalf of Karen is the problem and true wielder of power. But Karen's an easier scapegoat, already monstrous and dehumanized because she's a woman who wants things. And like you say, the myth of black men being a threat to white women was not created by women, it was created by white men who felt (feel) ownership of 'their' women. It WAS (and still is, sometimes) leveraged by otherwise objectified white women, but who's enacting the actual violence against black men for it?That's my thoughts on that. Would love some black radfems' input on it.@Cate

>>This whole Karen thing, 'I want to speak to the manager', is a stereotype of a woman who doesn't even wield the actual power, she just pleads with the MALE white patriarchal powers to cave in and give her privileges based on her fulfilling the role that was prescribed to her <<Yes, this has put very clearly what I've been thinking about fuzzily. I find that with many of the statements about the current awful vile racist murder/s in the US, I could replace "black man" with "any woman" and the statements would still be accurate.Yet, I know that now is not the time to say that ... Except - how many women a week are murdered by their partners/ex-partners. Simply because they're the sex which occupies the bottom of he patriarchal hierarchy #AmyCooper #racism #sexism @Wildebeest

Thanks. But yes, definitely not the time to make such comparisons. Honestly, after seeing anti-black racism tastelessly used for comparisons to all sorts of other oppressions, I believe it's never appropriate. Big thanks go to TRAs who insist on comparing transphobia to racism -- really put it into perspective for me. Haha.Misogyny is powerful and destructive enough to not need comparisons to racism to make it look important. Simple stats, like you say, the numbers of women murdered should be enough. And we as women and feminists always need to be watchful of men dismissing women's issues as something to be addressed 'later' when the 'more important' matters are settled. Always been a problem w/ revolutionary movements. @Cate

@Wildebeest @Cate yeah i dont really believe white womxxn made up lies about black males to have them hung. I believe a white male found out about an interracial relationship and then the white males accused the black males of rape. I dont remember a womxxn being a judge back then or the person who made the noose. I bet all those white womxxn who lied.... Were actually in love with those males and they were killed in front of them. Womxxn didnt have power if they said no they got raped beat killed as well. Its not like it was illegal.

Women are capable of evil. I think both happened. As well as situations where a relationship or sex was consensual but upon it being discovered, the white woman was forced to or chose to say it was rape to save herself from facing the wrath of white men. @HellaDea @Cate

@Wildebeest @Cate yeah so in the end.. People want to blame the womxxn for what males do. I guess womxxn should know their place and either die or be abused the rest of her life. See no one really talks about that bc no one cares about white womxxn. They never did and they still dont.

Yeah, ultimately nobody cares about women aside from *some* women. @HellaDea @Cate

Well, the behaviour of Amy Cooper was unforgiveable - she WAS weaponising racism. It was awful. So yes, women are capable of evil. But women aren't organising and benefitting from a systematic structure of oppression, such as patriarchy or racism. @Wildebeest @HellaDea

Agreed, although white women do benefit from racism in general even if they aren't the main benefactors or organizers or power-wielders. It's just that we're simultaneously still oppressed for our sex. The mirror image of men of color, who suffer from racism but benefit from sexism/patriarchy. @Cate @HellaDea
