What's the best free video format? How do I use ffmpeg to convert files to a free video format like .ogg / ogv without it looking hideous? And how to I make sure I specify and keep straight .ogg audio files and .ogg video files? These are questions I'm having a hard time finding answers to that I can comprehend. (somehow I managed to convert mp3s into ogg videos 😅 )

@dwc I don't know about video (something I still need to learn myself), but to convert to ogg audio, use -vn:ffmpeg -i inputfile.mp3 -vn outputfile.oggYou can also use other parameters to adjust the sound quality, but default is usually good enough for audio (but not for video) in my experience.

@vecna @dwc Okay, is higher bitrate means better quality audio?

@redstarfish @dwc I think generally yes, but there are probably other factors too.
