@kev I have far, far fewer devices:* Work Laptop* Work Phone* Raspberry Pi* Pi Zero* NUC like PC (bought since lockdown - long story)* And then the server-side stuff I run in the cloudThe biggest reason they may proliferate is that my work devices get locked down to the point where I can't use them for technological purposes: the NUC is because Cisco Web Security means my web traffic doesn't have my home as its src_ip.

@kev * Work laptop* Work phone* Personal phone* Tablet* Laptop* ServerAbout the same as you, I think? My wife has her own set of devices. I don't count those.I can't see me needing any more, but each has a specific use so I'm unlikely to move to less.

@kev I was just discussing this last night. It's crazy how many different devices I have but how I only use one or two of them daily. I definitely think it's time to consolidate.

@brandonsjournal I'm not sure if I will consolidate. All my devices have a specific use. So I'd justified. That's what I'm telling myself, at least haha.

@kev @jamie Last laptop was a Thinkpad T420 and I loved it.I miss the keyboard, but mostly I miss the mouse buttons above the trackpad, and damnit, I miss the nubbin.Got the xps for the yuge resolution... but I just cant get used to the keyboard and trackpad.

@kev @jamie pretty sure you're in the majority. Never met anyone that doesn't thin they're pointless.I made myself use it for 2 weeks and never looked back. I resent using a trackpad these days. I dunno if the xps trackpad on this gen is particularly naff, I wouldn't know. But I hate using it.I got so used to having my thumb resting on the mouse buttons and my middle finger on the nubbin. It was an error to think I could do without.

@kev @jamie I used to, but changed because I grew tired of the sniggers every time I brought it up.I think the generic term is Pointing Stick.Lenovo brand it the TrackPoint.Nipple, Nubbin, Nub, and others are all colloquial.

@basil @kev @jamie It's a nipple, and I hate it. Always hitting it by mistake when I want a B or an H. It is the only thing I dislike about the ThinkPad.

@jamie @fitheach @basil @kev I find it easier to use than the trackpad (and use it on both my ThinkPad and HP Elitebook - indeed I have the trackpad switched off on the Elitebook as otherwise my hand brushes against it and it activates when I don't want it to..) also had it on a Toshiba I used in the late 1990s (I don't think that even had a trackpad)

@vfrmedia I used to prefer using a mouse, but I got fed up carrying yet another device. Mice never fit into laptop bags nicely.Overtime I got very proficient using the trackpad, and the extra keys around the trackpad. I also use the trackpad like a mini graphics tablet.@jamie @basil @kev

@vfrmedia @jamie @fitheach @basil @kev I live my nubs (pointing stick, nipple...)! Once I got used to it I find trackpads incredibly annoying and innefficient. Never touch the trackpad on my thinkpad and kind of wish all of my standalone keyboards had them too to save desk space. If the Tex Yoda II wasn't $300 I'd already have one and I am thinking about getting one of the thinkpad desktop keyboards that have them.
