@cyber-hellscape im going to pay mine anyway, because even if they can't evict you right now, you still owe the money, plus interest. I advise people to at least make partial payments because it will cost you less in the long run, and not all communities have waived evictions. Partial payment delays evictions by quite a bit; by taking your money, the landlord has agreed to let you stay for more time. There's no precedent for this, but the courts are LIKELY to go easier on people who say "Hey, I got laid off due to coronavirus and i know i owe, but i paid what i could at the time" and court-order a repayment plan rather than approving an eviction. Things aren't likely to go as smoothly for those who say "FUCK CAPITALISM I AIN'T PAYING RENT STRIKE WOOO!!!"

@mrsaturday I feel like that singular photos is just one that I lumped into what seems to be a larger phenomena tbh. I think that the rent strike is something that La Raza is trying to manipulate and take advantage of, but I do not think they are the ones running the movement. It feels very asymmetrical and disorganized.

@cyber-hellscape And that's the problem, isn't it? Something like that works only if it happens on a large enough scale to make it so the sheer number of people participating overwhelms the system. A few thousand people going on general strike is just semi-organized hooky and a few thousand people skipping out on rent is a minor inconvenience and a few thousand landlords issuing eviction notices. Maybe I'm jaded, but all of these ideas come off as posturing and slacktivism. Occupy Wall Street was as effective of a pushback against these people as we've seen in probably 50 years and even then it was trampled under foot within a matter of weeks.

Demonstrating a willingness to pay isn't an empty gesture though, legally it's a very meaningful one even if the actual amount is pitiful. If you're not going to be able to pay, call your creditors and inform them instead of dodging them, making the effort goes a long way. File for bankruptcy if you have to, it fucks up your credit for a while but it stalls punishments for nonpayment, slows down interest, and eliminates some of worst consequences. Bankruptcy courts are going to be extra-lenient for a little while once they all reopen, i'm 99% sure of that.

You'll do anything and everything you always said you'd never do if you're hungry and desperate enough. And if you remain in that state long enough, it will change you forever. Best to preach about caring more but not imposing stuff on others.

Not with music. I can grab a pencil, a picture and with enough time draw a very good copy of what I'm seeing.I just can't produce original stuff. I would be inefficient to try as there's LOTS of people that do stuff I like already too, so I don't really try and nothing of value is lost because I can actually solve problems and given clear objectives accomplish those, so I add value to society in that way instead.
