I can't save every racist, anti-black thing people send me because I'd run out of space, but I do have a pretty sizeable collection receipts of folks being blatantly hateful. It's interesting juxtaposing messages against each other and seeing how bigots really do say the same things over and over again, but believe they are being novel. One day I'm gonna make a space specifically for all these shots so folks can see how a common thread on the fedi is just plain racism.

And this in alleged progressive spaces. This is from people who have experienced some form of marginalization from being a woman, gay, trans, etc etc. It's kind of remarkable how quickly people express some experience about being treated poorly because of their identity revert to very common racist tropes when they feel threatened.A lot of times I cannot differentiate between a conservative white dude and a trans white woman b/c of how quickly they fall back on the same type of racism.

I think about intersections a lot because I want to have a high level of understanding when it come to how bigotry intersects so I can be more effective at building communal spaces.I often find myself disappointed in white progressives b/c not only do they not see the value in our common struggle, but will violently defend their whiteness if one doesn't prioritize theirs specifically. And this is the reaction of any common racist. Valuing their humanity above all is a core pillar of racism.

Laying out receipts from progressive white folks and comparing them to random bigots in the context where we don't see eye to eye is an interesting exercise because not just how similar they are, but many are almost verbatim.Same posture, same tone, same aggression, hell even the same language in many cases. It's just interesting seeing how much the views of people who profess to be far left are parallel to folks who are far right. The similarities are... striking.

@BrienneHarris No.I'm just kidding, I will. It's rude to assume hateful intent. It's rude to wish someone ill. It's rude to escalate a conversation with a disproportionate response. It's rude to presume you're entitled to a particular response to your unsolicited comment.

@BrienneHarris I think you'll have to adjust your assumptions/expectations if you want to be treated differently, then. Or you can keep offering these kinds of responses and see if they're received warmly.

@BrienneHarris We live in a society that is built upon the exploitation of people of color by white people. So of course, people affected by this will fight back. Black people criticizing whiteness, fighting for their rights and equality is not the same thing as "hating white people".But hey, if some person of color just hate white people after that, it would be pretty normal. You can't ask every person of color to not have a problem with whites even as we are oppressing them.

@Are0h i can only talk from observation here on the Internet, not from lived experience in the US, since…i'm not (from) there, and i'll only speak for white trans women:white trans women need to confront their history, and realise that they are standing on the shoulders of black giantsthey need to stop talking about violence as though it affects them the sameand they need to deconstruct their *white* *male* socialisation, before/instead of practicing radical softness uwu

@meena The funny part is that the part where they feel attacked is only their interpretation of something they usually instigate.I find many white folks no matter how they identify are so aggressive with their opinions as if they are prepared for a fight that really doesn't exist. And the origin of this stance is usually the biases they hold against Black folks. It's almost like they need to create a problem to justify some unspoken belief.

@ansugeisler To be honest, it's not really restraint. It's just... lack of interest.I'm pretty used to how insufferable white people are and how they specifically try to antagonize Black/Brown folks to instigate some exchange that they feel will justify their non-sense.Ha, and it's just boring. It's just what people do when they have nothing of interest to say.In white people's case, that usually means falling back on racist tropes.

@Are0h the amount of times i've pointed this out to so-called leftists and had them get *really* pissed off and gaslighty...i really think a lot of the people who say they are left only do so as a means to look cool and score social points. it's all about image for them, and if anyone sees them being called a racist piece of shit, they dig in and defend their image. they're fake people who don't believe in anything that doesn't help them climb a social ladder.

@lyliawisteria i've said many times if people practiced the progressiveness they allege in their profiles, the fedi would be a very different place.Instead we have the same social groups being harassed and ran off of many instances in the same manner we've seen on Birdland, FB, etc.The consistency of that across platforms is not an accident.

@Are0h it's definitely not. i've seen it go down in person, and have had it happen to myself as well, in the context of calling out abuse, ableism, transmisia, emotional manipulation, and cult-like gaslighting. you either get discredited and ran out, or people start talking behind your back, saying they're "scared", but they're more afraid of your rage at the situation than they are at the severely fucked up situation they've so casually helped to create.

@lyliawisteria The way people who instigate these confrontations and contribute to unhealthy environments victimize themselves has always been of a peculiar interest to me.There's so much effort into people trying to manipulate folks into finding some 'common ground' with their unhealthy and often violent behavior rather than just deal with the behavior. As if we are hurting them by refusing to be taken in by their non-sense and toxicity. As if we owe them a piece of our well being.

@lyliawisteria I'm sure we could trade war stories about how it has affected us personally. I've quite a few tales and scars that I've collected over the years. Those experiences inform why I'm so merciless with people that bring those attitudes into my space. No matter how they present themselves, their intent is to harm. And that will always get a specific response from me.
