Work called and needed me for an emergency fix. I'd have been annoyed if I didn't already have to work toady for another issue. That's 13 consecutive days of work with no breaks. To say I'm starting to burn out would be an understatement.

@mike I got called in too but as I was driving in, the individual responsible for pushing some stuff today called me off. Said it just started working. I bet he just tugged on his earlobes, freeing his cranium from it resting place, and figured it out before I arrived.

@skywise Nope, the company is huge, but they only hire the bare minimum. Corporations don't make their billions by spending money they can avoid spending.

@mike Don't they have labour laws against employee exploitation in the USA?!?I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be allowed here in Canada, or at least I hope the heck so.

@Tayo I was scheduled to work tonight for an upgrade to our production environment, but the developer never got back to me on the timing, but I got called in for a completely unrelated leap year bug. Apparently the fact that 120 years ago wasn't a leap year somehow mattered to one of our data extracts. They said why, but I was thinking about how much it sucked to be at work on a Saturday dealing with problems that only occur every 120 years.

@mike From what I understand from the link below, it would go against the Canadian labour laws. On the other hand, I believe that healthcare workers are often forced to work long hours, there must be exceptions.https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/services/labour-standards/reports/hours-work.html#h2.2But hey, according to some Americans, these are filthy socialist policies. ๐When I started my current job, I was warned not to expect to work overtime and not do more than 40 hrs/week. I was fine with it, I had enough of overtime at my previous job.

@normandc I believe they do, but you'll starve to death before you can ever enforce them in a court of law. American is a country of the corporations, by the corporations, for the corporations. The individual worker is expendable, and if they complain about their treatment, their position is easy to fill with another resource.

@mike That's always been my feeling (I used to coordinate projects with US companies and dealt with ordinary workers/lower management). In France labour laws are heavily tilted towards workers I think, I'd say in Canada we're about in the middle. The Goldilocks country ๐

@mike I was able to go back home and salvage the day hiking with my spouse. Our daughter drove up and joined us for dinner. Much better than it was looking for a while.

@Tayo @mike "Mike, look at the bright side. You won't have to worry about this bug the next time it comes up. "I know... I know... I get told that kind of logic from our management too...Makes you want to strangle someone.

@randynose @Tayo My wayward developer got in touch with me between midnight and 12:30 this morning to do the scheduled thing, so I got that done. Which, technically means I worked Sunday too, but I'm not going to count it because it would just make me angry. I have over a week of vacation coming up starting the 6th, and I'm going to be turning my phone off. If they need me to help put out fires, they better hope I see the smoke.
