The Goth analogy in Jo's article is an excellent one.At least they were having some fun, and judging by people I knew who went to Slimelight, quite a lot of sex as well.Goth was way better as a youth culture. You've got your Aleister Crowley and maybe a bit of Kafka, you've got some dodgy sulphate. That doesn't sound too bad.Much better than hormones.Apart from a minority of dysphoriacs, TG and especially non binary is just a cultural phenomenon, like being a punk or a hippy. The idea that this makes you a political class and a social justice issue, is just laughable. The idea that you can bend science to accomodate these identities is just ridiculous.@DejaVu

@Reddy_Sorted @DejaVu Thatbis an excellent article and the goth angle is great. I always imagine if I were to transplant all the current gender fuck trumpets back to when I was a teenager, back when dinosaurs walked the earth, or the 90s as it was known they would’ve been laughed off the planet! It really is cringeworthy to watch! I’m special me look at my sparkly top etc etc. They are so dull they have actually had to invent this shit to make them even mildly interesting! At least the goths had style!

There are a lot of parallels.Goths tended to be a bit too middle class to be punks, mainly because of the association of punk with violence, at the time, which wasn't unfounded btw. There was a sense of alienation, a smidge of gender non conformity, a sense of community, a wish for free expression, expressed in a way that was eccentric and not really that unhealthy. The problem with the current crop ... well do I even have to go there again? This is a stonking quote and exactly how I felt as a small town fledgling hippy - "I didn’t want to be stared at. But deep down I thrived on the attention. No one flounces about in a velvet cape in July if he or she doesn’t want a bit of an audience."Fortunately, I wasn't growing up amongst todays 'gender ideology' as I would have probably identified as 'non binary'.In my svelte 20's I would get wolf whistled by builders, if they only saw me from the back. This is the sort of validation kids today could only dream of.Get in !!!@Funsizescot1975 @DejaVu

Scene kids! Today’s gender acolytes aren’t like goths, or even emos; they’re scene kids. Scene kids had no clue about the music, the history or even the sentiment of goth they were just in it for the hair dye and attention... @Reddy_Sorted @Funsizescot1975 @DejaVu

@SheChanges @Ladyfat @Reddy_Sorted @Funsizescot1975 @DejaVu Hippie here. Braless, logger boots, Indian-print bedspread sewn into dress. But, my new friends accused me of working with "straights and plastics".....like, yea, who else was paying for my college education but me and my typing jobs downtown. So, the dudes with waist length hair and in my ex's case Fu Manchu long fingernails could dress as they would but, other people could be ridiculed for their fashion cholices? Hypocrites. I kept the best of hippie - earth concerns and civil rights for women/black/gays/lesbians - but, left the rest.Hippie shortly became a costume. Even red-necks wore the costume. It was fashionable for men to grow shaggy long hair....it was commodified by Madison Avenue and spun into a thousand bad ads and lame movies. LOL.There is an authentic element to all youth rebellions. There is an inauthentic element to all commercially based corporate commodifications of the same rebellions. The gender cult is already a commodified movement. The next rebellion will be away from tats and gender mods - back to Hippie Natural!! LOL. Full circle? Well, the Goths were too recent to recycle yet.

So true. I used to love my long pink hair and eyeliner but at least I was realistic about why I wore it, I wanted people to look at me! Now people openly dress like clowns and wonder why their bus driver stares 😉@SheChanges @Reddy_Sorted @Funsizescot1975 @DejaVu

Well, we know why we're here don't we? Men's Sexual Rights to cross women's boundaries and erase women's rights has been disguised as Civil Rights for the poor oppressed Trans which is a lying Corporate narrative in the pursuit of money and power. Same old. Same old. https://thefederalist.com/2018/07/05/transgenderism-just-big-business-dressed-pretend-civil-rights-clothes/@GrumpyOldNurse @Reddy_Sorted @Funsizescot1975 @DejaVu
