There needs to be some kind of public education program about Lupron.

But how on Earth, logically, do they think it’s ‘reversible’. How does that term actually apply to stopping puberty. You can’t reverse the stopping of it. If they must claim something to try and minimise the harm actually done, they could say, you can just start puberty again by stopping taking them’. That’s more accurate. Then of course a sensible person would ask, So they remain childlike for longer than they should? And how would they catch up with their peers growth or are they permanently stunted/damaged? Reversible makes it sound like you can go back in time. @Lemondrizzle

from a meds pov I would assume it meant no damage, effect only, so stopping would return you to previous state. eg a medication is giving you a dry mouth, but when you stop taking it you no longer have a dry mouth as it didn't damage saliva glands. But that cannot possibly apply in delaying natural puberty. @AprilTui @Lemondrizzle

Yes but if you’re a parent of a child being told that, it’s probably not a clear term. And obviously it does do harm as you say. I had a couple of kids in extended family who had cancer and they didn’t take that drug I don’t think but both were so tiny in comparison to peers and one of them is a twin. I don’t know why you’d medicalise your kid like this unnecessarily @FeartnTired @Lemondrizzle

@AprilTui @FeartnTired So the quote is from a thread about a CNN article. Quotes from the article:"Historically we have known the puberty blockers are safe and effective and this is totally reversible, so the benefits far outweigh any risk. It is sort of a no-brainer to make these available in these circumstances," said Dr. Michelle Forcier, a pediatrician who was not part of this study, but works with transgender patients. "By not allowing their child to use these drugs, that is not a neutral option," said Forcier. "This is why this paper is so important. This access is associative into adulthood and is important for safety. We know that access can offer protective effects. This is something that will help a parent keep their child safe."The study, she said, points to why access is so important, counter to some political movements to deny children such access."It is also critically important as far as policy," Levine said, "that policy makers do not get in the way of medical standards of care."https://edition.cnn.com/2020/01/23/health/transgender-puberty-blockers-suicide-study/index.html?utm_source=twCNN&utm_content=2020-01-23T13%3A16%3A05&utm_medium=social&utm_term=link

@Lemondrizzle @AprilTui @FeartnTired Lupron:"SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A group of San Diego women is speaking out against a highly controversial medication for endometriosis.Team 10 investigative reporter Jennifer Kastner has spent weeks looking at thousands of complaints about serious side effects, including death. The drug is called Lupron. Some people who take it have reported severe bone loss, fatigue, headaches, depression, hot flashes and more. Several patients say their doctors didn’t give them enough warning about how dangerous this drug can be. @rose @AprilTui @FeartnTired First result on Google for 'what are the effects of puberty blockers?' We can't blame parents for thinking the drug is safe. It's what is being taught everywhere.

@rose @AprilTui @FeartnTired I live in a GC bubble so I presume everyone knows these drugs are massively harmful but we have to remember that the medical profession in the US (not the UK so much) is not saying this, and the popular perception is that they're life savers.

to save their life, as much as your relatives with the cancer - they've been convinced that it's trans or die. that lie is the root of the harm. there is no other condition, physical or mental that you are encouraged to believe you should be given in to or harm will result. @AprilTui @Lemondrizzle

@LastEXXitToNowhere @FeartnTired @AprilTui @Lemondrizzle THIS 👇 https://www.statnews.com/2017/02/02/lupron-puberty-children-health-problems/FEBRUARY 2, 2017For years, Sharissa Derricott, 30, had no idea why her body seemed to be failing. At 21, a surgeon replaced her deteriorated jaw joint. She’s been diagnosed with degenerative disc disease and fibromyalgia, a chronic pain condition. Her teeth are shedding enamel and cracking.None of it made sense to her until she discovered a community of women online who describe similar symptoms and have one thing in common: All had taken a drug called Lupron.Thousands of parents chose to inject their daughters with the drug, which was approved to shut down puberty in young girls but also is commonly used off-label to help short kids grow taller.More than 10,000 adverse event reports filed with the FDA reflect the experiences of women who’ve taken Lupron. The reports describe everything from brittle bones to faulty joints. In interviews and in online forums, women who took the drug as young girls or initiated a daughter’s treatment described harsh side effects that have been well-documented in adults. But the FDA has yet to issue additional warnings about pediatric use, and unapproved uses of the drugs persist.Meanwhile, pediatricians and industry researchers are criticizing doctors for using Lupron to help kids with normally timed puberty grow taller, an “off-label” practice that was shown more than a decade ago to cause harm. Off-label prescribing is legal and common, but means doctors are using drugs in ways the FDA did not determine to be safe and effective.

@LastEXXitToNowhere @HebrideanHecate @FeartnTired @AprilTui BMJ article from last year:The development of these interventions should, therefore, occur in the context of research, and treatments for under 18 gender dysphoric children and adolescents remain largely experimental. There are a large number of unanswered questions that include the age at start, reversibility; adverse events, long term effects on mental health, quality of life, bone mineral density, osteoporosis in later life and cognition. We wonder whether off label use is appropriate and justified for drugs such as spironolactone which can cause substantial harms and even death. We are also ignorant of the long-term safety profiles of the different GAH regimens. The current evidence base does not support informed decision making and safe practice in children.https://blogs.bmj.com/bmjebmspotlight/2019/02/25/gender-affirming-hormone-in-children-and-adolescents-evidence-review/

@Lemondrizzle @rose @AprilTui @FeartnTired Afraid not. I'm extrapolating from the BBC video of SG chortling away (on her son's 16th birthday when she had him castrated and mutilated) because Jackie's penis was too stunted from blockers to be used to create a neovagina. Gloating that his sexual organ would be constructed from colon tissue.

@AprilTui @Lemondrizzle Its been reversible in the past because its been used to delay precocious puberty. Its never been used to delay puberty past the point where natural puberty ends.Once you reach adulthood the window of opportunity for puberty has passed.

Time does not stand still because puberty blockers are given to kids --- their bodies are still trying to grow up in the natural way but the drugs interfere with that. There is no "reversible" in blocking puberty. @TheInebriati @AprilTui @Lemondrizzle
