I get so excited by seed catalogues and the temptation is to always order more seeds than available space to grow. They just look so pretty and tempting...#Seeds

@teslas_moustache sorry, these are UK-based catalogues...The only US one I know of is https://www.rareseeds.com/. But I don't know how good they are.

@GwenfarsGarden @teslas_moustache No, there aren't really too many seed companies that really cater to a specific region or climate. There are a few, but none specific to the KC area. Rare Seeds (AKA: Baker Creek) are alright. Their selection is excellent. Unfortunately, their germination rates and seed quality are not always the best. They also have very random pricing and packet sizes. Order early as the frequently sell out. Personal recommendation. If you find something you like from them save your own seed. You will likely get better quality seed and over time your seed will adapt to your growing region. Sadly, they often discontinue varieties after only a few seasons. They have their reasons, but still frustrating. Buy more seed than you expect to use because of the aforementioned reasons. Been doing this most of my life, plus have a degree in sustainable agriculture. Happy to help with any questions or ideas. More to come in next toot.

@GwenfarsGarden @teslas_moustache https://www.fedcoseeds.comOne of my favorite seed companies for many reasons. They are the only known cooperatively owned seed company in the US. Not to mention one of the few true cooperatives in the country. Amazing quality, great selection, brilliant customer service and hilarious catalog. Disliked by many conservatives because of their strong left political views.https://turtletreeseed.org/Another amazing organization with a great mission. Excellent quality. Small but great selection. Definitely worth supporting.http://www.evergreenseeds.com/Another great family run company. Focus on Asian vegetables. Very inexpensive seeds, great quality, amazing selection and big packets. Another one of my favorites.https://www.kitazawaseed.com/Another favorite. Focus on mainly traditional Japanese seed varieties. Great quality and selection. A little high priced and small packet sizes. Excellent customer service. Family owned for over 100 years.Another toot coming.
