@InspectorCaracal They did!We haven't really seen them since, but if I remember series 9 correctly, they're supposed to be around and Out There again now.

@Alexis if they do a plot where the time lords are like "hey Doctor we need you to fix this problem for us like for old time's sake" I might start watching it again

@InspectorCaracal @Alexis wasn’t that what they did in series 9 though? They even gave a nod to him still technically being president in absentia (which they finally revoked the next time they came up but still)

@fluffy @InspectorCaracal The way I remember it is, Day of the Doctor puts them back out there, and then in Hell Bent he stops by to save Clara and do the laundry and then he fucks back off again. But there haven't really been stories about the Time Lords just sort of existing in the universe again like they used to yet.

@Alexis @InspectorCaracal yeah I was getting my series numbers confused. For some reason I thought Day of the Doctor was series 9 (which is to say I thought the new series has been going on longer than that but I forgot about the long-ass hiatuses). Also what was the one for the “knock four times” arc? Where the Time Lords ended up reappearing just to sequester themselves again?

@fluffy 'knock four times' was foreshadowing that...When Wilfred Mott was in the Least Safe Safety System that all the radiation was going to be dumped into, he knocked on the door to remind the doctor he was there after Rassilon, the Master, and Folks were sent back to the time war. Then the doctor had to switch places and be inside the Least Safe Safety System instead so he could die.It was stupid. And the Tenth Doctor is such a whiner.Did you see the Caves of Androzani? Knew he was dying, got the antidote, only enough for one person, gave it to her, and that's that. No "I don't want to go." No "Oh, sure, they CALL it regeneration but I die and someone else walks away!"Anyway, the 'knock four times' resolution was the end of 'End of Time' part II.@Alexis @InspectorCaracal

@Alexis @InspectorCaracal also even back in the day it’s not like the time lords actually interacted with the universe much except when one had gone rogue. On that note I wonder if we’ll ever see the Meddling Monk again

@fluffy @Alexis honestly I'm not looking for the Time Lords meddling with the universeI'm looking for the Time Lords meddling with the Doctor

@InspectorCaracal @fluffy Honestly, I wouldn't mind that as a status quo to return to, the Time Lords exist and observe, and when they occasionally need something done they poke Dr Who with a stick until she does it.

@Alexis @InspectorCaracal I love the idea of an all-powerful omniscient species that’s unable to overcome their own bureaucracy except through tacit/overt tolerance of their least-unfavorite rebel

@fluffy My two favorite interpretations of the Time Lords were the one in the end of the War Games that had the Doctor terrified of them (that's one thing the new series gets wrong. The Doctor needs to be outclassed a lot more. Back in the old series there were The Timelords, the various Guardians, Eternals, Chronovores…you can't really have your series be a plucky underdog and also the Highest Authority/Greatest Power in the Universe.) and casually erased things from existence. Then there was the one in the novel continuities that suggested their society was built around similar lines to Unseen University: A combination of teaching wizards how /not/ to do magic and filling their lives with OTHER STUFF instead because if they actually did half of what they were capable of it would be very, very bad.@Alexis @InspectorCaracal

@fluffy Also you have no idea how much it enrages me to compare the garbage time war with the garbage we got in the new series to the much better time war in the Eighth doctor novel continuity.Given that Russel T. Davies /wanted/ to write more episodes like Midnight but thought they would fail and the show would be unpopular if he did, I kind of wonder if he made the Time War as stupid as it was on purpose due to grossly underestimating his audience.@Alexis @InspectorCaracal

@azure @Alexis @InspectorCaracal yeah I really don’t get why so many people love the tenth doctor so much. He had like three good episodes and they were all written by a pre-egomaniacal Moffat
