       A friend-acquaintance posted something yesterday about her family misgendering her for the 20-somethingth year in a row.  Don’t put up with that kind of abuse, not for two weeks a year, not even for two days a year.  Set a deadline for how long you will accept mistakes from family and friends you rarely see and hold them to it.  If they can’t learn your pronouns in a few years, get out of there!  I gave my family 5 years and everyone worth keeping had it down inside two years without slips.

       And I will block if you object to this advice because it’s NOT okay and is regularly used by bigoted assholes to hurt trans family members.  Years is more than generous, five years is generous to a fault.

       If your family really sucks here’s a thought: get out!  Don’t let relatives abuse you, please!  They’re not doing you any favors, you’re doing THEM a favor by being patient and extending trust.
