Hate it when I’m injected with a gender-changing virus and given a complete makeover by sexy pirate women from space, only to infiltrate another group of space pirate gun-runner women who discover my secret and interrogate me, demanding that I confess as they torture me!

And I will block if you object to this advice because it’s NOT okay and is regularly used by bigoted assholes to hurt trans family members. Years is more than generous, five years is generous to a fault.

If your family really sucks here’s a thought: get out! Don’t let relatives abuse you, please! They’re not doing you any favors, you’re doing THEM a favor by being patient and extending trust.

14% of trans women do sex work, at AT LEAST twice the rate of the general population (about 6%) and twice the rate of all white trans people (about 6% including all genders and assignments at birth.)among trans people of color the number doubles to 27%, among Black women it quadruples to over 40%.About 3% of trans people have exchanged sex for food or a place to sleep.

7% of the total population in the US has experienced homelessness. 14% of trans people in the US have experienced homelessness.Among trans sex workers in the US that number jumps to *48%.*

A minor takeaway from this data for me (in contrast to the major lessons to be learned about our population) is this: when we talk about “the community” online and how it has failed someone, we’re usually NOT talking about those of us who are homeless, deeply impoverished, doing street-level sex work, full-service sex work (hooking,) survival sex work, etc. And if we were, the conversation would include a lot more than lip service reminders of who isn’t represented.

These numbers are depressing but I would ask you to think about them. I’m someone who has been a sex worker, doing full service work under a pimp who controlled almost every aspect of my life at the time. I still count my lucky stars because I had an in-call space (our apartment) and because being white afforded me a better income, less overall work, and less work for each dollar. There was usually one day a week that I wasn’t working, and I never saw more than three clients in one day.

That doesn’t mean at all that the rest of you are “rich.” Not at all. I’m pointing out that our range of (income, shelter, basic needs provided for) when we’re talking about trans people, *particularly trans women,* is significantly lower. We’re not a wealthy population and it’s frankly pretty wild to be accused of all being rich kids.

“Secular Christians” is a term that I’ve needed for like, my entire life but only just learned. Likewise “(secular) Christian hegemony”. Feels good to give gifts at any time of year, maybe even particularly during the winter. But wow are there a lot of people who think resistance to Christmas culture makes you a Scrooge or a Grinch or a contrarian rather than someone who doesn’t enjoy cultural evangelism.

Christian culture is so evangelist, recruiting is so fundamentally in its nature, that *being* anything other than how it sees the world is imagined to be a PR campaign and recruitment drive.

The basic cosmology of Christians is not just “one god and he can do anything but he’s also this specific man”. It’s also Adam and Eve bullshit, the notion that men are the basic units of human beings, reflecting (totally) God’s image. Women are the last thing to be created, an afterthought, whereas other animals always had “males” and “females.” Although Christians will claim that the Hebrew bible was made obsolete because Jesus (?) they return fondly to Adam and Noah,

Meanwhile Christmas is nowhere to be found because it’s perhaps the most successful product of Christianity’s cultural-colonial project: gobbling up any and all holy days and celebrations during the heart of Winter and merging them with the birth of Jesus Christ (which of course happened at the other end of the year entirely.)

Anyway fuck all of this, I’m not letting Xmas get a foot in the door again just like I’m not letting anyone tell me that there’s only two sexes or genders.

And on the other hand, I’m through treating rejection of religion by cultural Christians as the default model of atheism or areligious life. It’s not. Likewise rejecting a two-gender model in favor of NO genders isn’t, in my eyes, much different from a Christian fundamentalist becoming a zealous atheist. You exist oppositionally to the point that any system other than the thing itself or rebellion against it is ignored or minimized.

And for many it seems impossible to conceive even now of a world where *everyone* isn’t trying to recruit, where evangelism and conversion aren’t part of the basic model of how to live a life. Being a thing must mean that the person is trying to get everyone else to be what they are. It’s difficult to explain how baffling that notion of permanent evangelism is when you know it to be part of a culture that is trying to annihilate your own.
