@ashwin_baindur Thanks heaps, that is indeed a lovely photo of our lovely lil planet. I wish more people looked at these photos and pondered the import of them with seriousness.I’d like to live on the Moon, were it in a well accoutred bubble base with trees and such. Are you into Moon science and lore?

@ashwin_baindur Interesting, ta. If you wish to know all about Moon bases, @publius has done serious research into the hows and wherefore of establishing them. I still would prefer a bubble forest, but he makes a good case for underground mine shafts.

@ashwin_baindur @publius Oh, sadly no on both counts! I have read a bit of Clarke, and was a fan when quite young of the 2001 books, which have a bit of Moon fun. I always wished they made 2061 into a film. Thanks for the head”s up, shall put these on the read list.

Why not be sensible as a species, shape up, and go adventuring around the cosmos a bit? What in the world is really stopping us?

@Shufei @Samyukth @ashwin_baindur Every time someone (yes, even Charlie Stross) says that all this space stuff is nonsensical because there's no economic case for it, I just have to ask : how is it that the world can afford massive armed forces, for the purpose of squabbling over tiny bits of what is, cosmically, itself a tiny bit, at such a cost that even when one side "wins" it is usually worse off than it was before? Clearly, there is something stronger than economic rational action!
