@SexNotGenderXX no. But I did read an excellent article that explained exactly how the whole thing is coercive control. You are supposed to feel that reading it and approving it makes you racy and edgy and not a prude. Zero critical thought to what it's normalising. See also watching Game of Thrones.

I had a family member who worked in a shop with the same title selling the sort of stuff you would expect. Her daughter used to go down and wait there after she finished nursery. I commented to another relative about it not being a suitable place for a small child but it was laughed off πŸ˜’πŸ˜“ Grooming comes to mind.Hate the book with a fury and will never read it 🀬@HebrideanHecate @LaDolceEater @SexNotGenderXX

@SexNotGenderXX I sorta did. As in, I followed a blog on Tumblr that went through the first one basically page by page correcting the syntax and grammar and providing colour commentary. The next two books were done chapter by chapter but equally hilarious/disturbing. Also there was a French blogger who went through the first one and made me laugh out loud at times she just couldn't believe how badly written and rapey it was. I certainly would never pay actual money to read them.

I had a 59 YO american woman staying in my house. She was reading that book. I had no idea what it was. she was constantly complaining and swearing when reading it: "I knew it would be like that"wwoofers often leave books behind for the next one. she did leave that book behind. the next wwoofer that came was a woman in her 20's. I proudly showed her the book shelf "here is some reading in many languages if you want" after a few weeks she had been at my house and she knew me better, she came one day shyly to talk to me: "did you know that you have a piece of pornography in the wwoofers' house"? Me: "WHAT?!" she showed it to me and I recognised Terry's book. I apologised to her and thank her for warning me. then i read a page then threw it to the bin.@SexNotGenderXX

Oh I read it (English grad ok!) it's terrible! Not actually anywhere near as explicit as you'd imagine but "full of cringe" as the cool kids say. Full of "he looked at me and the world did a full spin on its axis" and "my inner goddess swayed seductively" 🀒@SexNotGenderXX

For me I have no interest in the general pornified genre so it wasn't the sort of thing I'd casually read. I was at a crime writing festival just after it went on sale and the general consensus was that it was poorly written and woefully gratuitous so I drew a line under it there and then.

@SexNotGenderXX Have you ever heard of the Staunch Book Prize? It's an annual award given to a thriller novel where no woman is beaten, stalked, sexually exploited, raped or murdered. I've met the woman who founded it a couple of times, and she's every bit as amazing as you'd think.http://staunchbookprize.com/about-2/

@Maxz @SexNotGenderXX Ooh, excellent! I'd love to see it get more recognition. I know it's still fairly new, so it's got time to grow, but it'd be great if it ended up inspiring readers and writers
