       @kaniini AIUI .deb is also correct on both counts and is only slow at the former because it allows the packager to do a bunch of other stuff. Stuff that maybe shouldn't be done by the package manager I guess?

       @freakazoid apk is basically deb-ng, anything a deb can do an apk can also do.  things like triggers came from apk, as well.

       @freakazoid the main thing about apk that is nice verses the dpkg (and surrounding ecosystem) is that the system state is always a well-defined declarative graph.  this means you can reproduce system installs, like you can with stuff like nix, but without having to buy into everything nix does.

       @freakazoid basically, i would suggest spinning up an alpine docker or running it in a VM or whatever and trying it.  you'll "get it" if you try it, i think

       @kaniini I ran Alpine on my router for years. I've been a little afraid to use it as a general server OS, but maybe I should try it out on my fileserver instead of FreeNAS.
