       “You’re only as good as your word” is right up there with “snitches get stitches” as memes designed to lock you into acting in a way that benefits someone else to your own disadvantage. I mean, don’t get a rep for breaking promises or being a tattletale, but there are times when both of those rules are poisonous, manipulative bullshit. When you recognize those times, do what’s right and not what people have told you to do.You don’t owe anyone eternity.

       @tek Heh, at my last job I got so fed up with some of the remarks going on in my department and was fed up with having to always be the one person to counter it that I went to my manager. Someone afterwards asked 'who snitched' and I said I did, because I don't owe you emotional labour , especially after having done that from '96 onward working in tech. Still pleased with my decision. Made my life a lot easier.
