Sorry for the tangent. I know that whether dogs can be happy isnβt exactly the biggest issue in the world. π It is one of my pet peeves, though.

@tek i don't think anyone argues dogs can't be happy, it's just that most of those viral pictures of "smiling" dogs don't look like happy animals. the mouth imitates a human smile in a lot of canine anxiety/fear expressions, too. idk, with the puppos we can't only look at the face

@wolfteeth I do agree that context is very important and that a picture often doesn't give enough to judge. But if I say my doggo's name, she's start smiling and wagging her tail as she runs over to see me.And to the contrary, there *are* people saying that dogs can't be happy because that's attributing a human emotion to an animal, blah blah etc.
