Thoughtful analysis of #Microsoft's lust for #opensource:"Microsoft is one of the biggest contributors to open source project on GitHub (platform now owned by Microsoft). But if you look at their projects, you’ll notice that almost all of the Microsoft’s open source products are aimed at programmers and software developers. This is not love, Microsoft and Linux. This is merely a relationship of convenience."https://itsfoss.com/windows-linux-kernel-wsl-2/

@JackieLibre Microsoft may love Open Source, but as we know Open Source misses the point https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/open-source-misses-the-point.htmlOpen Source is freedom for developers. Free Software and copyleft is freedom because doing otherwise is unethical, and because users have a right to it.

@Matter no worries I get that.I have understood the quote that I have cited as: "Look Microsoft is open sourcing not because it wants to share. Microsoft just wants to lure developers into coding even more products that sells, making itself even richer in the process."Have you understood it in a less critical way?

@JackieLibre I don't think they get many contributions, but rather that they do this open source work in order to change the sentiment developers have about them, to effectively bribe them into good will

@Matter I agree with that. Actually I meant exactly that when making the original toot.Sometimes simply what you write is not the same as what you mean. 🙃
