@sohkamyung > One of Britain's rarest mammalsThey mean one of England's rarest mammals. There are thousands of Pine Martens here in the Highlands. I see their skat every day when walking, and even though they are mostly night active I see them frequently, too.

@fitheach @sohkamyung That sort of confusion must be vexing. Many years ago, I was touring Dolmabahce Palace in Istanbul. Pointing up to a beautiful crystal chandelier, the local guide explained that it was "English", imported in the 19th century. On further investigation, I realised that it had actually been produced in Waterford.#EveryoneKnowsMyNeighbours

@mpjgregoire It is rather typical of the modern BBC tabloid-style sloppy reporting. "Pine martens returned to Forest of Dean after facing extinction." Where? Was it just the Forest of Dean? "One of Britain's rarest mammals... faced extinction in this country... and loss of English woodland." So, which country are they talking about? The game is given away by this sentence: "They were pushed to the more remote parts of the UK". Remote from whose perspective? Not mine.>>>@sohkamyung

@mpjgregoire<<<It is an interesting story that has been cobbled together too quickly, is missing important details due to a desire to provide info in a short tabloid style and conflates England/Britain and UK.@sohkamyung

@fitheach @sohkamyung The story was from the #BBC? I would have expected better from them.Probably the writer, editor and everyone else involved live in London.

@mpjgregoire It is part of the "dumbing down" that is prevalent across the media, generally. A tell-tale sign is when articles are written with staccato sentences, almost as if they are composed entirely of bullet points. The BBC are one of the leading adherents of this style.@sohkamyung
