       @IslandScrubJay i know that hong kong has a lot of protests, but the protestors are not fighting against the corrupt local government. they just blame the mainland and want the old colonial days back.

       @felix The local government was attempting to pass legislation that would allow it to extradite people in Honk Kong convicted of crimes in mainland China, which could set the precedent for putting them under the control of the mainland's government. If the people in a region don't want to live under some other place's government they shouldn't have to. I don't care if the protesters have dumb takes on US politics, if they want to be autonomous they should be.

       @IslandScrubJay In that case, why dont they call for an independence referendum? All I see is them calling for foreign intervention, and no country would allow that.

       @felix Dude I don't live in Hong Kong. I just see what looks like a bunch of people collectively telling a corrupt state that they don't want to live under that they aren't going to put up with its bullshit. If they think the best way to go about that is asking foreign liberal democracies for help then that's their decision, whether anyone else thinks it's a good one or not.
