@thejovian I like how cold war/red scare propaganda can never tell the difference between communism and extreme expansionist Russian nationalism. Like, the only alternative to capitalism is communism, and communism is just inherently Russian. Remember when Marx wrote Capital, but nobody he showed it to could read it cause it was all in Russian for some reason?

@felix The local government was attempting to pass legislation that would allow it to extradite people in Honk Kong convicted of crimes in mainland China, which could set the precedent for putting them under the control of the mainland's government. If the people in a region don't want to live under some other place's government they shouldn't have to. I don't care if the protesters have dumb takes on US politics, if they want to be autonomous they should be.

@felix Dude I don't live in Hong Kong. I just see what looks like a bunch of people collectively telling a corrupt state that they don't want to live under that they aren't going to put up with its bullshit. If they think the best way to go about that is asking foreign liberal democracies for help then that's their decision, whether anyone else thinks it's a good one or not.

@thatbrickster @starwall Hey, have you ever heard of the sun? It does this thing where it's really fucking hot and really fucking bright all the time, and it's probably gonna do that for longer than humanity will exist for, but so little of that energy is actually utilized by people. Why isn't all the energy that goes into making grocery store parking lots hot as fuck utilized by people in some useful way? (1/2)

@tyil @CarbonCatalyst @fribbledom I don't think that everyone I disagree with is a fascist, goofball. I said that fascists, in addition to the people who support them and allow them to create fascism within a society, should be opposed with more than just insults. If that's what fascism is, then the Allies in WWII were pretty fascist for going as far as to *gasp* wage war, of all things, against the Axis "just because they disagreed with them."

@silverspookgames i like how silent generation folks being stingy is clearly recognized as a result of the economic crisis they lived through instilling in them incredible anxiety over economic security, but when millennials exhibit the exact same trend in behavior it's seen as a character flaw
