@twee I throw everything in my Music folder and have Rhythmbox figure out the metadata. Everything is saved to folders like ~/Music/Artist/Album/

@masterofthetiger oh nice, i do a pretty similar thing, but use beets to sort out my metadata.i use rhythmbox at the moment for the libre.fm integration, but would like to move to mpd again at some point

@twee I know this isn't the answer you're looking for, but I just use directories in ~/Music like so: ~/Music/Artist/Album. I use cmus to listen to music, so that lets me sort in other, more interesting ways.

@rdh oh no im perfectly fine with that answer - its a simple and logical way to sort music.actually the thing im more interested in is these other ways - how do you use cmus to navigate your collection?

@twee By default, cmus filters by artist, then drills down by album. When I'm listening to music, I typically either listen to an entire album, or shuffle my whole library. I don't do much sorting.

@rdh oh fair enough. i normally listen by genre, or even more often simply by whether they have vocals (modern stuff?), any tune (classical), or just ambience (ambient)im pretty eclectic but have recently started using libre.fm to try and find out what i actually like the most .
