I woke up to my account on another instance being #banned overnight. It's an instance I interacted with on a daily basis, and I even knew the owner to some degree. I had never posted anything on that particular account either.The reason was an opinion I expressed here, regarding the new instance #Gab is planning to launch. I stated that, despite their controversy with #HateSpeech and #Nazis I'm curious if #Gab might help #internet freedom overall.

I understand that in the eyes of some, not agreeing that #Gab is the devil and not speaking out against them makes you a supporter of #hate groups. This sort of mindset is what I take a very strong issue with and would like to discuss.As the owner had the honor of having a discussion with me (even if without reversing the ban) I won't mention the instance in cause at least not for the time being.

Here is the problem: Those ideological wars seem to be reaching their breaking point. We're at the stage where "everyone who isn't with me must be against me"; Either you agree with the mindset of the other person, or you are siding with whatever monstrous group the discussion is over.This is NOT okay. This way of thinking is harming the people you aren't targeting far more than the ones you are. Also, to put it frankly, it makes you a tyrant and a dictator.

As far as I'm aware, #Gab is not explicitly dedicated to #racism #hate #hatespeech #nazis and the likes of: They're a group that supports maximum freedom of speech. Obviously this also draws horrible people who want to abuse that freedom. As long as they aren't advertising themselves to or with them however, I fail to see the assimilation.I made the exact same point about the #Librem #Purism instance. Which definitely can't be accused of being ran by a #Nazi

I know what it's like to be a victim of #online #censorship which is why I'm a powerful advocate against it. Those who don't know what it's like to risk being hated and silenced everywhere may not fully understand this.When you sincerely advocate for #freedom in the name of a good cause, you do so knowing that bad people will abuse this freedom. Yes they are a problem, yes it needs to be solved... but it will have to be solved in another way.

I believe in projects like #Librem and now #Gab because I wish to see people create a fully uncensorable internet. One on which governments and big corporations cannot decide what's right or wrong, but we (each community) can create our own lives and enjoy whatever we wish to. One on which a central authority doesn't look down on you from above, smiting you whenever any correlation makes them deem you "the enemy" and calling that you be erased from existence.

But I'm NOT obligated to agree with your every opinion on the matter, because otherwise I will be painted as a #Nazi supporter. I call on all #instance #admins to please keep a level head. Do NOT go overboard in the fight against #hatespeech or other issues!Don't attack your users for their opinions alone. If you're unclear what they mean or why they said something, take 10 seconds of your life to actually ask them.Remember there are people who simply don't care about those issues so much or take them as seriously. They are not obligated to care either: You aren't recruiting an army.

If we don't stop following the same old mindsets, we are not going to be using #Mastodon to build a new and better #internet for everyone. Quite contrarily, we seem to be on our way to making it worse than #Twitter #Birdsite with those behaviors.Let's take a stance against #Nazis and other issues, but do so calmly and rationally and while respecting other people. @xenophora Currently I don't run my own instance, not sure if and when I will. If I did, my personal policy would likely be that any form harassment isn't welcome on it.I'm aware that some horrible people take advantage of places like #Gab to do bad things. Considering this, I can even understand people deciding to block them... although I wouldn't do it preemptively and first wait to see if they truly become a problem.

Was any information leaked by an insider that #Gab was intended to support #Nazis and for no other reason?From my knowledge so far, #Gab came to be as mass #censorship scandals on #Facebook and #Twitter #Birdsite started rising. Their only idea was to create a platform where people can express themselves freely to the extent allowed by the law.

All I saw was standard news and people having polite discussion.Some good people I already know have #Gab accounts as well. Does that make them evil? How many folks who have done nothing wrong and likely oppose #hate as much as we do are using the platform, whom we're implicitly attacking as well? Am I the only one who asks those questions?
