@Agni@misskey.xyz It's mainly that he isn't much of a computer person at all. He has a shitty old HP laptop that I think he only uses for typing. All his media is concentrated to the entertainment center in his living room: game consoles (Nintendo only) and a CD library. He'll do things like re-buy games digitally that he already owns the physical copy of, just to keep the process more minimalistic and neat. I think the moralizing about piracy is just a cloak for some kind of OCD.

Let the senior estimator stay later than he has to every single day, be pissed off literally all the time, and make 2.5x as much as me. That doesn't appeal to me. I get plenty done in 9 hours and then I go home. If they want a harder worker, they can either pay me more or find someone else. But they won't find someone else. The company is too young with too little profile, and the pool for this kind of work is bone dry in this region. So they don't say anything when I show up 10-15 min late everyday. They didn't drug test me, even tho they were supposed to, because they'd rather have a second estimator who smokes pot in his spare time than some piece of shit who steals from the company or no second estimator at all. I've already called off a few times, mainly to test whether or not this is the type of job where I get fired for calling off. Apparently it isn't. So I've observed plenty of details that indicate that they need me and I have them right where I want them. I know how the game works; I just play it differently than you. The same generation that owns and runs this company are the people who sold me the dream that if I only go to college and work hard at whatever I love, I'll never have to "work" a day in my life. Turns out it was all a pipe dream sold to me by naive adults in my community and a few rich pieces of shit profiting off the higher education system.
