This huge add on problem in Firefox got me thinking about alternatives. I shouldn’t be relying on just one browser, so I looked into others. So far I got:- Brave- Vivaldi- WaterfoxWhat are your thoughts on these and do you have any other recommendations? Or just any thoughts about browsers!

@JacobNeplokh I've been happily using Waterfox for several months but I'm debating a switch to palemoon. I want to be as far away from both Google and Mozilla as possible.

@gentoorebel Why do you want to be far away from Mozilla?

@JacobNeplokh their decision making, at an organizational level, has been questionable for nigh on to five years now.Implementing closed-source EME, removing XUL features, the reduced configurability/customizability, foisting ARGs for TV shows onto users, abandoning active support for Thunderbird, questionable spending choices, nodejs required for source builds...Mozilla was important when IE was the only game in town, and I think they should be important again, but they compromise too much.

@gentoorebel True. There have been a ton of things Mozilla has done for the past few years that they shouldn’t have, but in my opinion they still are important and trustworthy.

@JacobNeplokh Important, yes.Trustworthy is up for debate. For now, we can agree to disagree. Today I think they're scummy, next year, who knows. Internet comes at you fast, doesn't it?

@gentoorebel We will have to agree to disagree, but this was informative. You raise a great point. Who knows what happens next year? It’s not just the internet, it’s everything. Events are highly unpredictable and this has remained true throughout history and will continue to be. Let’s hope it’s positive.

@JacobNeplokh Brave & Vivaldi just seem like chrome re-brands with your data going to a different corp. As for waterfox it is okay for now though I do not know how much longer they are going to support that legacy code.

@rain Well Brave and Vivaldi are far more privacy respecting.

@JacobNeplokh According to what? I mean I can make a chrome fork and say I won't do anything with your data while being funded by less than friendly sponsors. Then turn around and block ads while replacing them my own ads.https://mastodon.at/@switchingsocial/101030495356329694

@JacobNeplokh I use palemoon, modded all to crazy hell to behave a bit like qutebrowser. For times when I worry about a page - I use Firefox still though.(heads up here: Palemoons lead dev seems to be a bit of a dickhead - BUT remember its not like I know the man so take that info with massive pinch of salt)

@JacobNeplokh nice, easily modded (which Firefox isn't any more) - the base is kinda ancient at this point as it, I think, uses an old Firefox version - but works well and a rather nice set of extensions.
