       > 2014> get new phone> newphone needs microSIM (3FF), oldphone uses miniSIM (2FF)> cut my SIM, hope for the best> 2019> get new phone> newphone needs nanoSIM (4FF)> ...Seriously, do we have to do this each time I get a new phone?

@Sir_BoopsEqually anoying was before the micro usb charger, when a brand would change the size of of the charger head just to make people buy new ones instead of reusing (still pissed with Nokia 'cause of those stunts).@rysiek

@maryjane @Sir_Boops so 100% true."Who's got a Samsung charger?" used to be my slogan in the Good Ole Days. The microUSB and now USB-C standarization - we largely have the #EU to thank for that. And I happen to know how insanely hard it was to push it through against the immense lobbying.

@rysiek BTW: I started my "mobile phone career" with a SIM card in credit card size.

@rysiek Alcatel HB100, then Siemens S3com, followed by Siemens S4, then my first "smartphone" a Sony Ericsson P910i. Then my Android "career" started.

@heluecht several dumbphones, then a Neo FreeRunner, N900, Jolla Phone (microSIM), now Sony Xperia XA2 (nanoSIM; because it supports SailfishOS)

@rysiekHah! You have had exactly the same phones that I have had. XA2 has some screen problems though (purple spots). Any luck flashing #sailfish using gnulinux?

@whirli not yet! Following the flashing guide to the letter, so first putting in my SIM cards and testing them on the stock system.SailfishOS flashing comes in a few days. Can't wait, really.

@rysiek Yeah. I did the same but had no luck. Usb-hub, old PC, new PC nothing worked. Installed lineage os 16 instead. I have no windows machines around.

@rysiekIf I wasnt Finnish I'd say "you'll be alright. I'm sure it'll be fine." But the way I see it you might want to brace for the impending disappointment. Do tell me if you manage to flash it. I'd love to do it as well.

@whirli It werked!!1! And not just from any GNU/Linux system, from #QubesOS no less!I think the important part was using the USB2 socket, instead of USB3. There's a bug related to this somewhere, I noticed.Anyway, I haveS #SailfishOS on my Xperia XA2 now. Just as planned. I am okay with this.

@whirli I used this howto: https://jolla.com/sailfishx-linux-instructions-xa2/It kind of just worked. But I made sure to follow all steps (including the "use your phone on stock system for a while") exactly.

@tuxicoman @whirli Tooter. But I don't use it a lot, mostly limit my Fediversing to desktop.I would love a decent, not Electron-based, desktop client, preferably in Qt, though! ;)I wonder how #Choqoc is going...
