"The whole 'liking' and 'sharing' model is just garbage. There is no effort and no quality control. In fact, it's all geared to the reverse of quality control, with lowest common denominator targets, and click-bait and things designed to generate an emotional response, often one of moral outrage."Well said Linus, well said.https://www.cnet.com/news/facebook-twitter-and-instagram-are-garbage-says-linux-founder/

@Antanicus he's also pro-real-name-policy apparently.... which... eeeehhhhh. Maybe someone should show Scuttlebutt to him? (although that also has likes)

@Antanicus > "The whole 'liking' and 'sharing' model is just garbage"Is it fair to say that you liked this comment enough that you decided to share it on Mastodon? :D

@Antanicus @grainloom I agree, and I agree on the real-name policy as well, since it is part of the quality control context. The like-sharing model was never meant to promote quality control (the reddit model does) but to promote interaction and generate content where there would have been none.

@cirku17 @Antanicus It's easy to agree to a real-name policy if you are not at any risk of being doxxed and harassed. I'd much prefer the SSB model, where you can be pseudonymous, but you can't just willy-nilly make new accounts, because your connections matter. (at least that's the sales pitch)

@grainloom @Antanicus Nice indeed. It reduces shitposting, but what's the accountability of a pseudonym? Keeping a good reputation on your name is a good deterrent against toxic behaviour. While I can create a new pseudonym, I can't just impersonate someone else. Look at alla the shitposting on mastodon, it's huge. And it's free: you just dump loads of garbage with no consequence at all.
