After some research and experimentation I'll be staying with bash as my interactive shell and not switch to zsh or fish. But it was fun to experiment.

@liw if you ever write up any notes on this, i am interested in reading them. currently trying to decide whether it's worth giving fish another shot...

@brennen I doubt notes are upcoming, but my main reason to stay with bash is that configuring any new shell is more work than I'm interested in.

@brennen @liw I tried fish for a brief moment, concluded that I can't use it like I've used bash for the last 25 years, went back to bash.

@liw I have switched to fish a couple of weeks ago, and besides the history as you type situation that messes with my focus, everything else seems good. What bugged you about it?

@mariusor Too much work to learn a new shell, and to configure it to my liking, not enough benefit.

@liw @mariusor I tend to be a late adopter generally (stuff that survives tends to be good - and zsh has been going for years), but I'll probably skip changing shells too and go straight for the guile/emacs desktop/terminal. Not enough benefit indeed. Maybe I would change if I were more of a system administrator.
