@brandon I think standards are for people who can't agree on common code bases, and they end up causing major forks, which multiplies the amount of work needed to do the same thing....but no, I just thought it'd be funny.

@cy I think standards are good when many people are playing in the same playground. Examples would be operating systems, app repositories, communication platforms, and I'm sure there are more I can't think of

@brandon I'm honestly not sold either way on standards. Some powerful actor can push "standards" on others that are arbitrarily difficult to match, taking credibility away from the open source project, who can't meet the standards. So they're not always good. They generally seem to be pretty okay though. I haven't seen any horrible fork who could agree on any sort of standard between them.
