@x VPS, VPN, either way it’s a purchase on top of what people normally pay. Also a dependence on a strongly centralized backbone of powerful, expensive servers.Ain’t exactly mesh networking.

@leyonhjelm @succucirno If a bunch of stupid hipsters taking over some plot of land to plant tomatoes on it is treason, I’m not sure why we should even consider treason a crime. When did treason stop being reserved for people who got entire armies slaughtered for their own benefit?

@penny @x I’ve been hearing that IPv6 is just around the corner for the past 20 years, so forgive me if I’m not as optimistic. ISPs like squatting on their petty little IPv4 fiefdoms they’re holding us in. Not to mention that the first ISP that enables IPv6 on a wide scale will immediately get sued by the MPAA for axe murdering Mickey Mouse.

@THGentleman Satiation is mostly governed by the hormones “leptin” and “ghrelin”https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leptin https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GhrelinThe only things that really affect them to my knowledge are:1) Eating low fiber food, and eating it quickly can get you consuming more than you would have, since the body doesn’t have time to adjust those hormones.2) Starving yourself can cause leptin resistence, as the body goes into “starvation mode” building up fat stores just in case the famine returns.3) Fructose induces leptin resistence: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18703413/4) Stress increases ghrelin, which causes compulsive overeating: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2915752/5) Loneliness increases ghrelin, too. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4409518/So pretty much ignore those scammers saying low fat is good, avoid fructose (table sugar is half fructose), eat your sugar with lots of fiber, and you’ll feel fullest. Consider not seeking out too much stressful stuff, find some good friends you can be physically affectionate with, and cultivate healthy relationships from them. That’s how I understand it.

@THGentleman That’s pretty much why the USA has an obesity epidemic, IMO. Too much “job” and too much low fiber foods.Though I haven’t heard that carbs affect appetite one way or the other. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26803589/ indicates they might avoid lowering a peptide related to appetite, but the study also showed no change in satiation among any of the participants. I do know that ketosis is bad for the liver, so I’d avoid it even if it has some effect on lowering appetite. Anyway thanks, hope it helps.

@THGentleman Oh, hello! Did you see my pinned post?https://verge.info.tm/notice/9w36AnjZNOoGI9NdiaI’ve been using the data on the Oregonian’s corona virus website, to do some meaningful statistics on the percent infected. It’s really good news!Unless you’re talking about riots? I think Seattle has it worse, tbh.

@THGentleman It’s a pretty simple statistic. Number positive, versus number tested, rolling average for virus dormancy. The odd thing is I can’t find the data on number tested vs number of positive tests anywhere else, for any place outside of Oregon. Not that I spent a ton of time looking, but all I could find was about “total cases” or “deaths” with no qualification for how the testing is being carried out.

@brother Yeah, I’m only talking about people who go out screaming on the streets about some abstract thing, instead of forming a plan of action in private and not letting your enemies know until you’ve made your move. You can have the best friends in the world, and they’ll still fuck up on occasion.

@brother OTOH middle managers were created to amplify fuckups. They’re the dumb thugs who do the dirty work and take the blame, while upper management takes the profit. So the head of a commune wouldn’t be as likely to fuck up as someone whose job is to fuck people up. Doesn’t mean everyone would succeed at leading a commune; it’s just not fair to compare them to that asshole forcing unpaid overtime on workers at the local superstore.

Good thing about open source is that people can identify and protest any code that takes control of your computer away from you, to give the writers an unfair advantage over you. Except in the Fediverse. Here, it’s our moral duty to stay quiet about such things.
