companies are catching up with social media too and making their ads sneakier and sneakiereven though I'm super paranoid i didn't think twice about some things companies are doing these days until they were pointed out to me

@pea no, but seriously, it may be for the better, kids being shown ads so young may help them keep focused on what they came for in the first place. They'll be so used to them and their attempts at deception that they'll just completely phase them out

@pea ads on kids TV used to be really manipulative but I suppose that's avoidable if you sat your kids for hours in front of community-funded channels instead, and also not as scarily targeted

@scarlett the thing is, ads at least used to be, well, they told you they were ads by necessity of the formatting product placement is another matter and that's definitely sneaky, buta lot of things these days are hard to even recognize as ads -- big example being the social media presence of many companies, Wendy's is the best exampleactively working to personify and give a face to these megacorps, making you think they're human and you can trust them when you absolutely cannot -- actively working to dull the blade of critical thinking against them

@scarlett these days if you say things bad about Wendy's on social media it's seen as "bullying Wendy" if it's actually replied to by the account and i can only see that going fartherthinking of companies as your friends in *dangerous*
